i have herd of cars with ground out knock sensors runing great has anyone done this

Do you have a knock-related issue with your car or are you just asking?

Bottom line is that you need a knock sensor in a Turbo-DSM to tell the ECU to scale back timing if detonation starts to occur. Without one you will damage you engine (burnt valves, hole a piston, blow HG) when unmetered detonation occurs (bad gas, too much boost, too lean).

detionation does not = preignition, or even necessarily lead to it. The heat generally comes from retarded timing due to detonation sending the flame front out of the exhuast, if you dont have a knock sensor, you dont get the retarded timing.

Unless you are condining KS removal.. why not start your own "On Topic" Thread instead of trolling for arguments :thumbdown

there is a 1g in louisville ky that has done this . he runs low 7 in the 1/8 with a 20 and 550s and thats all

Does he have another way to monitor knock?

I would imagine that it would help for cars that experience phantom knock but like DSM90AWD said it will protect from detonation.

Obviously, you could try it and then if the engine blows, or is damaged, you can post to let everyone else know not to.

I remember a thread from David Buschur talking of some guy that was dyno-tuning his new setup (including a $tg III block / head and AEM-EMS) at his shop with the KS disconnected because did'nt want timing retard to hurt his #s. Short story.. engine blew up.

So ya.. you might be able to make a couple extra ponys by sacrificing the engine.

I think he is try to ask if you add a ground wire to the knock sensor, will it help the knock sensor be more accurate?? He not talk about disconnecting it.

I'm I right??
