Princeton,
Has anyone had their ECU done by JET? Does anyone know anything about what they do to your ECU? Just curious, anyone with some info, let me know

I had my ECU re-programmed by them.

You list all the mods you have done to your car, send in the ECU, and they tune it based on the mods you have done. I have NO IDEA what cirteria they use for tuning though....

My car runs great, and no complaints.

I am starting to go beyond what was listed when I first got it re-programmed, so time will tell if it holds up....

I wouldn't have JET do your ECU. Go with G-Force of one of those companies.

I have personnally been to JET on three different occasions to invesitagate how they can flash burn a non E-PROMed ECU (like the 97') since Mitsubishi states the chips cannot be flash burned and you would need a piggy back chip to reprogram. Mike and I from RRE both had a very interesting conversion with them and JET stuck by their statement that they could a did reprogram the chip but wouldn't show us how they did it and gave us the run around about dyno testing against a stock ECU. When we opened the ECU in front of the JET staff, there wasn't a piggyback chip so that means flash burned and these chips cannot be flash burned according to Mitsubishi-Mike called a couple reliable sources.

Anyway, I know of one other ECU done by them that had no code changes made and I'm sure mine is a 2nd since I saw know increase in timing and my SAFC settings didn't require changing. I don't even see them advertising the Eclipse ECU upgrade anymore and you never hear of people doing it so that must tell you something.

SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND MONEY AND NOT MESS WITH THE ECU AND LOOK AT THE AEM UNIT IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING OR SOMEONE CAN HELP YOU-THE UNIT REPLACES MANY OF THE CURRENT GADETS WE USE TO LIE TO THE ECU.

Just my personal experiences and opinion for what it's worth.

Don't you need a 95 ECU to use the DSMlink?

The AEM unit replaces the whole ECU and prpvides the easiest overall control of your system from what I've seen. It's a little expensive but once you sell (or never bought) your boost controller, SAFC, ITC, VPC or what ever else you use the cost is very reasonable.

Many options and I have neither one right now yet I'm still happy with the performance of my car.

Sell you SAFC and couple of things and get an AEM EMS.
That is horrible advice to give someone that just inquired on getting JET to reprogram his ECU.

The AEM is now available for 1gs and 2gs it is the current end all be all of standalone ecus. But unless Rez90 has a lot of money ready to invest on getting his setup properly tuned by a shop in NJ he is going to be out of luck. Most people can’t effectively tune a SAFC and all that has is hi/low throttle and a 7 spots you can modify fuel at. Do you think your average DSM owner is going to be able to figure something as complex as this out on their own? Because I don’t.

Horrible advice? Obviously you didn't read into my comments.

Basically, I'm saying why mess with the ECU for the money. If they know what they are doing or someone they know is knowledgable and wanted to venture into the programming phase then go with AEM or some other unit for that matter.

Soon basic maps will be available that people can use to get a solid starting point using the AEM based on their cars setup. A lot of good and evil can come out of this type of control so lets make that very clear up front.

If people want to take their money and spend it based on what one person says then they are fools. I cannot say with any confidence that people posting on the boards know what they are doing or not but some have the resources available (Knowledge, money or friends).

Posts are guidelines in my opinion and not always they best or right choice.:thumb:

Sorry, I just noticed your comments were directed and another post which just gives a blanket statement to sell out and get the AEM but I think we've covered the possible directions to go.

Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't touch my ECU unless I went with a fully programable system which I agree is more than most can handle skill wise.

True,
It's a matter of personal preference.
I have nothing agianst reprogram ECU.

Weather I spend $2 or $40k.

That is up to the individual and there goals.
Plus how deep there pocket books is and knowladge of a cars.

Goood luck with the reprogram. I've tried and it turned out well too.

Just for full disclosure I am switching to a Haltech in the next few months. I personally think that people spend WAY too much money on a safc, vpc, tmo ecu, datalogger combo. However I currently am getting about 420 or so the wheels on 94 octane with my SAFC and hacked MAS. I think that people give up on the SAFC way to soon. The reason that most people give up on it is that they are getting poor results and they blame the tool instead of the operator. I can’t stress enough that most people here should stick with the SAFC.

16Gspyder: The base maps on most standalones are good enough for you to limp your car to a shop to get tuned. The base AEM maps are for a stock car. The maps for a stock car and maps for a car with injectors and cams are drastically different. I would say that 90% of the people would do not have enough experience to get build off of a base map and get a well running car.

The AEM base maps wasn't meant to mean base or stock maps.

Mike at RoadRace basically told me to hold off for a year at let others figure the sytem out and within a year they should have core maps based on general setups (660's, 16G, etc) which would then only need minor adjusting.

Sounds logical to me.

It sounds very logical to me as well. But I have a few counterpoints for you.

How long as the SAFC been out? Does any shop out there give you exact settings for a safc with a 16g and 660s? Same thing with the Haltech. It is a lot less involved and it has been out for many years but there is no shop that will give you a well running base map.

Again that statement sound reasonable I really hope it happens but wouldn’t be naive enough to depend on it.

that's no fun if you don't do it your self.

Just kidding
I enjoy it and I have access to a dyno for a decent price. More like $180 per day with a Wide band O2.
I will need to do a vicious couple mods so I can get my car on a 2W dyno in the spring.

I know a lot of Supra boys are doing what you said. A couple of people figure maps for there big turbo and they steel/copy the program.

I wouldn't mind sharing my own program when it gets done.

I work on my car for fun. When it's no fun anymore I will sell everything.
So if it blow up in the process it blows up.
