It's about that time again. The 2010 Mitsubishi Mountain Meet will be held on the weekend of May 28th-30th. We have up'd the game this year by refining what we did last year, adding in some new activities and continuing other things in the tradition of last years meet.

Saturday:

The meet will officially kick off with the "meet and great" breakfast at Denny's in Black Mountain, NC at 8am on Saturday morning.

Following breakfast, the dyno day at Appalachian Motorsports will begin at 10am. App is a local perfomance shop that offers all forms of automotive services and have an AWD Mustang dyno. They are a great group of guys and have offered to do this again for us this year. The cost will be $50 for 3 pulls with optional wide-band logging. All those wishing to dyno this year will need to get in touch with Clint Yates at [email protected] to get your name on the list. To ensure you get your time on the dyno, all entries need to be paid by May 20th. Lunch will be served at noon with the dyno day ending when all cars have been dynoed. There is no charge to attend the dyno day. If you are just coming to watch, all you need to bring is some cash to cover your lunch at App.

Something new we have added this year is a Blue Ridge Parkway cruise up to Mt. Mitchell. This will give those who do not wish to dyno/attend the dyno day another option. We will be meeting in the Ingle's parking lot (across from Denny's) at 10am. It is highly recommended that you get fuel before we begin the cruise. There are plenty of stations in the immidiate vicinity. From the Ingle's parking lot we will cruise to Asheville, get on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and drive the 33 miles to the Mt. Mitchell State Park. For those that do not know, Mt. Mitchell is the highest point east of the Mississippi River in the US. We will make a couple of stops on the way up, as there will be multiple chances to take photo's and enjoy the scenery. We will have lunch at the restaurant in the park at noon. This is the only place to eat until we get back to Asheville. If you choose you can bring something with you to eat in the park. At about 3pm we will leave the park and have a chance for some "spirited" driving on our way back to Asheville.

Once back in Asheville or finished up at the dyno day, there will be some free time to explore around town or chill back to your hotel.

We will then be meeting at Asiana Grand Buffet on Hendersonville Rd. at 7pm for dinner. After dinner the evening is open. You can choose to go back to the hotel for the night, go downtown, go to Patton Ave. where much of the local car/truck scene can be found; there are plenty of places to park and hang out.

Sunday:

We get an early start with breakfast at IHOP on Smokey Park Hwy at 7am and then get on the road no later than 8:15am. We will take I-40w to us74(the Great Smokey Mtn. Expy.), then merge onto NC 28n. Once on 28, please pay attention as the road starts to get curvey. This will take us 32 miles deep into the Nantahala National Forest where the "Dragon" is located. This will bring us to the head of the section of us129 that is called the "Tail of The Dragon" or "Deal's Gap", where the Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort is located. Here there is parking, food, gifts, gas, and the "Tree of Shame". The "Tail" consist's of 318 curves in 11 miles and is one of the best driver's roads in the US.

At 2pm we will meet at Fontana Dam for a final photoshoot before the meet officially ends, after which you may choose to return to the "Dragon" or begin making the trek back home.

Don't forget, while at the dragon you will be photographed by professional photographers. These photos are usually available for purchase within a few days after the day on which they are taken.

Just read on dealsgap.com
Good morning and a happy good friday to everyone. Things contiue to move forward on getting the Dragon reopened by Wen next week. Waiting now for all the paperwork to be signed so the barricade can be moved.

Key things to remember:

1- It will not be one way traffic, you have to turn around and come back to the resort.

2- Two way traffic will mean crossing the double yellow puts you at risk as well as other motorcycle riders. Will resault in serious injury or a fatality.

3- THP will patrol ever day until the slide is gone, this is for our protection NOT I say again NOT to write endless tickets and use it as a revinue builder.

Easy stuff gang, we can have the Dragon for once without semi traffic on it. No word yet when the road will be open for thru traffic that will be up to the rock slide when they bring it down. But just at $2 million for the winning contract I do not see it as taking long or they will be losing money fast.

Now for the rumors, hope I can get them all right LOL.

No the road is not being removed and turned into part of the cades cove loop. No the tree of shame has not been cut down. No TDOT did not cause the rock slide on purpose. No THP is not tazzing folks for approaching the barricades. That is the ones from this week LOL.

Woot

Adam, you may want to plan an alternative to sunday just in case.

That's great news. This could actually turn out better then we planed. No commercial trucks or people passing through!!!:hellyeah:

No, that just means that the retards and non-literate folk will ignore the warnings, and hold up traffic regardless.

Always a possibility Robb. We have a few alternate plans on standby if we need to. We'll still be going over to that area though.

I'm going to take the bike out there a couple of weeks before the meet, just to see how things are looking.

GREAT NEWS!!!

MONDAY 12 APRIL 2010 THE DRAGON WILL BE OPEN AT 8 AM.

Ok gang great news.....it is official well all but the lawyer to say ok. TDOT will build a fence at the state line with a gate. They will open the Dragon for use from 8am until 8pm from the NC side only. There is still no way to get past the slide so you will have to turn around after the Dragon and return. Two THP will patrol as well as Graham county EMS will be the medical support.

MONDAY 12 APRIL 2010 THE DRAGON WILL BE OPEN AT 8 AM.

Looks like things are full steam ahead again. :woot:

Ok, Ok, I finally got the hotel stuff squared away yesterday. Sorry again for the delay!I took what I could get and ran with it. It was the cheapest of 3 hotels I visited and ended up being the same hotel we used last year.

Hope you guys had fun. I think I saw on Killboy that there were a few 1g's, 2g's and Evo's on the Dragon Sunday. We hit it up on saturday. IIRC we had about 30 cars cruise out there (1g's, 2g's, 3g's, Stratus's and Evo's). Everyone that came had a great time and we are planning another national Mitsubishi meet at the same time next year.

Check out the website, it will be getting a facelift here soon... Mitsubishis Take On the Dragon - MTOD

Sounds great! I don't know if the Mitsu Mountaian Meet will be on the same weekend next year, but I'd really like to come out for MTOD next year anyway. Looks like a great time. Keep us updated with info for next year. Thanks.

I will keep all of you informed. I think the initial plan right now is to pull it in a week (earlier in May) to try to miss some of the Memorial Day hub-bub in Gatlinburg. The cabin we stayed in was great, it ended up working out to about 30 bucks per person per night. The rental agency I went thru has several cabins in the same area, so that would be the plan for next year. Like I said, Ill keep you guys in the loop. I got a lot of positive feedback and hopefully next year we can start getting some sponsors and "prizes" to give out.

Yup, We went on Sunday, Which is when everyone else was suppost to go. So we were alittle pissed off to find out that we were the only ones there after we drove 600 mile to get down there and drive with everyone. We only seen the blk 1g while we were there.

I think if there is a "national meet" it would help to actually have cars there:thumb:

We're you in the primer-black 1g with the white hood? If so we passed you on the Dragon(I was driving the blue Mighty-Max). There was about 15 of us that met at the end of the Dragon. We hung out there for about an hour before heading back and having lunch at the Deal's Gap store.

That being said, most of the people who showed up in Asheville and at the track on Saturday were not able to come to Deal's Gap on Sunday. I'm sorry we didn't get to meet up with you guys, but I hope you enjoyed the Dragon anyway.
