I was wondering what some good mufflers are that dont look like the damn coffee cans. I hate those.. but i still need something that has a 3" throughout. I am building my own exhaust.

Well any muffler that is 3inch's is going to have a 4inch or 5inch tip. Nothing you can really do about it unless you try to find a muffler with dual 3inch tips.

are you serious? maybe i just wont run one then. .. what bout the ones that are 2 parts? its smaller than 3" but there are 2 of them.. so would that work? or how about a glasspack or cherrybomb.

well i consider a coffee can one that looks like a coffee can. the big ones that are on almost every aftermarket 3" exhaust made for DSMs. i just think they look like crap .. i mean its stupid to look at the back of your car and see this big round like 5" can sitting there hanging down. I like how the stock exhaust tips look. but i want something with more flow. and maybe polished up a bit more ...LOL

samuraitekno,

I have a 3" B&B Triflo Muffler that I am willing to part with if you are interested. It 3", just not quite as high flow as my coffee can N1 that
I replaced it with.

Let me know, looks stock (dual stainless tips) so you can't tell from
behind.

Thanks,

what shape does it have... and is it 3" straight through? or is it only 2.25? and do you have a pic? and why wouldnt it be as high flow as your coffee can n1? arent those 3" through also?

I found a bunch of Dynomax mufflers that are not coffee cans that are 3" though. that is what i am looking for... something in more of an oval shape. My buddy said to check out Dynomax or Thermal. so i am looking that up.. I will let you know.

You can check out the gallery to see pics of the muffler on the car
.. it is the one infront of the house. As for why if won't flow like a
N1; it is not a straight thru design. An exhaust like that has some
bends within the muffler chamber to make it more tolerable during
driving.

Anyway, just my .02 cents to your question. Other than that, you
have to buy a dynomax muffler and weld on the tip you wish to have.

I have a flowmaster 3" on my ride with a monza tip. I know, I don't like them either but, that's what came on the car. Anyway. I have a very steep hill in my driveway and basically busted the entire back out of it and busted the seam all the way to the back. After it was opened up I noticed that the top end was not bogging down and kept right on going. IMO the straight through mufflers are the only answer. The others are too restrictive.

okay what do you guys think about purple hornies? i think it would be very original... not sure if it would work though. and some guy i know told me to get magnaflow instead of dynomax.... let me know what you think

Magnaflow makes some nice 3 in. stainless steel muffers in oval or round. They're also straight thru, I have the 3 in. round one on my GSX and am running it w/ out a tip.

I run the Magnaflow 3" in/dual 2.25" out. Looks stock, but is straight
through. Under $90 if you can find a good deal.

-Dynomax or magnaflow's 3" with a dual tip from Road///Race can made it look just like OEM.

i have the same exact prob i hate the look and sound of those stupid big coffe can muffs. i figured out sumin tho. I like the was sum grand ams and others cars have two sets of dual pipes comin out the back . I looked it up on diff sites and they r all made for mustangs and $hit but u could prob do a custom job the muff is in the middle of the car back and they run pipes out of it to the back.

i dont know about that you would have a pipe hanging down... im not sure though... but hey everyone thanks for all the posts.. i am glad i finally found a dsm forum that isnt full of a-holes. I will be doing the exhaust in late september i think.. i will take pics and make a sound clip somehow.. and i will post it for you all. thanks again

you cant fit duals on a 2g, there arent enough places to put hangers, not to mention there really isnt a lot of space for it to Y out anyway, and also the stock bumper restricts this. you would have to find a bumper with 2 exhaust outlets, and then weld your hangers to god-knows-what.

trust me, i wanted duals too :)

ive had them on every car ive ever owned

oh, and if you dont like the ricerboy look or sound ( i like the look, just not the sound), peep the Magnaflow oval body stainless steel muffler, its a chrome finish with a 3" outlet, and it doesnt sound like a honda. it growls at full throttle and purrs at low speeds and half throttle.
