ok, this fall and winter i have been rebuilding my tranny and engine and when spring comes im dumping alot more money into suspension...

my plans for my car... i want to autocross ;)

so i need to know the best suspension set up and a decent price. i plan on getting eibach springs already unless someone knows anything better. but i need to know what other things i need and the brands, etc. because i dont know what all is involved in suspension performance.

I am setting my car up for auto cross too, mabey this will help, it's what i'm doing.......Energy suspention bushings--complete kit--already done/JIC magic coilovers-have sprint springs now but need stiffer shock/and a greddy strut bar. Hope that helps. let me know if you have any more q's.

heard anything about dropzone coilovers? im buying some cuz i found them for a damn good price. adjustable to lower 0" - 4"... and ive head some good stuff about them i just dunno if they r for autocrossing, o well, hell stock cars autocross for fun, LOL.

I have heard of them...They are JUNK!! any kind of coilover sleve is junk. All they do is slap and may even make your car handle worse if you don't have a good shock to accomany them.. I would just recommend some springs. I have sprint springs for now and they are pretty nice. They are real chaep too...like $125.. I wouldn't waste my time putting on the coilovers..

While I agree that good shocks are critical, the idea that all sleeve-type coil-over kits are "junk" and "slap" is nonsense. If by "slap" you mean that the sleeve is loose on the shock, then you either bought a lousy coil-over kit or bought the wrong kit for your shocks. (The GC kits for Konis are different from the kits for Tokikos or AGXs, for example.) OTOH, if by "slap" you mean that the spring becomes unloaded at droop, then all you need is a helper spring.

Besides agreeing that good shocks are key, I also agree that there are some lousy coil-over kits out there. But let's not go too far. For $1000, I don't think that anything comes close to GC coil-overs and Konis. And GC coil-overs are a sleeve-type kit.

for $1200 you can have a brand new suspension. Koni/GC and RM sways. that still cheaper by far than JIC/Tein.

I agree 100% with Jtoby. get Koni. IMHO unless you are going to run bilsteins, Koni is the only other option, as all other shocks are built by no name, unproven companies.

second, get the GCs. autoxers have been running them for years. to be quite honest, i dont know a single one that runs one of these up-start coilovers. proven!

don't forget your tires.

Do bilstein make struts for our cars???? I would not go with the Koni. A friend of my builds porshe cup cars (1 of only 3 people in the us qualified to do this), besides his motors he is well know for his suspesion setups, so good that a chevy team tried to get him to setup their suspesion. Anyhow, i was told never get koni, they performan well for a few months and then their perforamnce drops tremedously, so bad that he calls all koni shocks "bad right out of the box". But he thinks highly of bilstein, tein for daily drivers. Although i run kyb shocks, i am just offering his 30+ years in race experiance.

yes bilstein makes them. what do you think DG runs.

thats funny cause i know someone that does this too. is he local to you? or do i just know #2 out of 3.

what are your thoughts w/ eibach equipment on DSMs, i knwo they work great on my friends rx-7 because we took his car up to 115 on a exit ramp that was rated for 25-35.

Yes I would like to know about Eibach as well. They have 2 kits, a pro kit and a sportline kit. One drops 1 inch the other drops 1.8

I only drag race so would these be a good choice when paired with maybe a set of kyb's?

i like eibach, but get custom spring rates over the kits. something better suited for the type of racing you will do most.

Uh Dennis runs a shocktek setup rebuilt with Bilstein guts. By no means an off the shelf bilstein unit.
This poster has a 1G, bilstein does not make any strut/shock for 1G dsms. It's just KYB or koni for us in the off the shelf variety.

So noone recommends Tein? They are $1060 shipped now and you can get the unit to adjust them without having to get out of the car.

No 1G applications. This thread is 1G!
