given that i have a 2g and cant use the awsome knock sensor waring built in to the new S-AFC II, should i get the I instead cause it is quite a bit cheaper. Has anyone ever had problems with a S-AFC breaking cause i was initially set on a warranty but i might get one without if they dont seem to come defective much.

I would go for the SAFCII, it has more fuel adjusting points ( 12 instead of 8 I think ) and has 2 different storable maps you can use and switch between. Even w/o the knock sensor function, I would choose it over the s-afc, but you can't go wrong w/ either.

Your 95 should be able to use the knock sensor function. The OBDII computers in late 95-99 cars cant use this feature but if yours has the preOBD II ecu it should worK IIRC.

the AFC II is better due to the added features..

werent all 95 and up eclipse obdII

96-99 were OBDII.

95's are great because they dont have all that big brother emissions crap that throws a freaking CEL if you even leave your gas cap loose.

sweet i thought i knew a thing or two but aparently i dont, so i will get a knock count prob with the safc II, should i use the first gen eclipse wiring diragrams for the safc cause its also obd I

i dont think u realize what the original safc looks like, no digital screen, no nice extra fetures, just an a/f controler
i think the new knock feature was added with the new safc 2, the old safc 2 had 4 buttons on the front, the new one has a knob instead, the one with the buttons is not ansafc1, its just the old version of the safc2
and all eclipses built after 95 were obd2, but most 95 eclipses were bult in 94, so they are obd1

i just got my safc2.. i can't really compare how it is with the safc1 cause i never played arodn with it.. but im very happy with the afc2. it does seem smalelr in size than the safc1.. also in comparison it says there are more features..

knock reading
2 settings that can be saved.. exp. for pump and other race gas..
pass word protection
finer rpm intervals
and more

here is pics of mine installed on my 2g

OBD-II is the new emissions control systems required by the Feds in all passenger cars produced from the 96 model year and up. It gives instant feedback if an emissions system component fails such as a cat converter you get a check engine light. Even if you leave the gas cap loose you get a CEL. Its really uncool since trucks/suvs dont have to have the system IIRC...

IIRC OBD-II vehicles cant use the knock feature but you can just find a 95 GS ECU computer and then you can IIRC/

I don't believe that you're able to detect knock on a '95 DSM... I was under the impression that all 2G's were OBD II. That was most of the reason why I sold my SAFC II and am now going to go with DSMLink instead; solely for the ability to tune by knock also. But, I may be wrong too...

i have a 95.. 94 build date.. now i dont know if the knock feature works.. BUT.. if u look at my thread about my AFC2 being installed
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73008
one of the pics is in the knock feature menu and indeed it was reading some kind of knock.. but thats odd.. 200+ counts.. and it does indeed scroll and numbers change while im fiddling with it.. so who knows..

i found the comparisons with the OLD S-AFC..

Previous S-AFC

DISPLAY

The new Super AFC-II utilizes a state of the art visual display lighting called Vacuum Flourescent Display (VFD) to provide a bright & clear visual information. A new dot matrix monitor enabled a variety of information to be displayed simultaneously where the driver can check quickly. Information relayed can be either displayed numerically (analog gauge style) or graphically.
BODY

The body of this new product is slimmer & smaller (H52 mm x W126 mm x D18 mm) than the previous offerring. This ergonomically designed body houses only a "center button" which toggles & rotates where it enables the driver to navigate (4-axis toggle: up& down, and left & right) and to select functions of the Super AFC-II. This button also has a feature that enables the driver to fine tune any parameters. All these features in the new model's user interface made it much easier & efficient compared to the older model.

FUNCTION

KNOCKING MONITOR
The new Super AFC-II has a new knock sensor function which alerts the driver. This ensures that the engine is tuned to perfection at every stage. This function only works on vehicles that has an engine knock sensor.

MEMORIZE 2 TYPE OF SETTING DATA
The new Super AFC-II can save two data setting from data collected with respected to air flow adjust rate, throttle duration, engine RPM, etc. The driver could use these two settings in a variety of driving conditions, be it track, street, or just plain cruising.

PASSWORD
To avoid the new Super AFC-II from tampering by unauthorized users, a password can be set for protection.

WARNING
The driver can set up various warning functions in order to monitor the engine operation. These functions includes incoming air flow rate, suction pipe pressure, engine knock RPM, etc.

Others
Settings & data stored in the new Super AFC-II will not be lost even if the it is disconnected from the vehicle battery. RMP signal for air flow & pressure sensors can be adjusted in 12 points in 1% increments depending on fuel settings in +50% to -50%. Or the RSP can be set in increments of 200 RPM. Throttle opening duration: Adjustable by size.
