When i turn on my lights the guage lights wont come on. It is not the fuse and i dunno what else it could be. Please Help!!!

1. Check the tail light fuse.

2. Check the dimmer switch.

Yeah, I had a similar problem in my 1g. My interior lights were all out, and then I came to find out that my rear tail lights were out too. They would go on when I applied the break, but just on-on... they weren't on...... hmm.... Anyways, its actually a 20amp fuse under the hood NOT one inside your car! Check that out, beyond that, you may have a bad selenoid somewhere... but thats nearly impossible to find. Good luck!

it was that fuse under the hood that did it to me too, however if it blows again you will have to figure out why... did you do any wiring work lately? stereo or something like that?

Yeah mine blew out after I installed the stupid system. Totally random, but it happened. It happened a couple more times also (i just kept fuses in my car from then on) but then it stopped and never happened again. Originally i thought it was a short cause everytime i'd put a fuse in it would blow the second i turned on my lights. But then I disconnected the power to the amp, put the fuse in, and wha la, no blown fuse... so I hookt up the amp again and no problems.

Okay so i finally get my car runin again and i am gettn ready to take it out tonight and what do you know...NO gauge lights...... or the AC dail lights... So is there something else besides the fuse (under the dash) or the dimmer switch that can go out...??? like a relay or another fuse somewhere...ive looked and looked and havent seen anything...and the F"n fuse has now ruined my night.... Any, ANY ideas would be great....

P.S- i also have no Parking/Running lights either.... if that makes a difference....And this is on a 90' GSX

Actually, I remember blowing a fuse and my dash/gauge lights went out. It was in one of the fuse boxes under the hood. You should certainly check there before you panic. I'm pretty sure that is where the fuse is for the dash.

Hey thanks alot .... i found it, and for everybody else out there.. that fuse is labled TAIL so check it ...mucho gracias

same problem here guys, and it just happened, what i did was wire in my boost guage to the cigar ligter light.... guess it was too much load.
ill check that fuse thanks!

My friend and I installed everything that is listed in my mods section. My friend installed the boost gauge and did the wiring and what not for it. It worked fine the first day (i have the blitz boost gauge the one with the black light on the face) and so did the gauge clusters. The next day I turn on the car to make sure everything is running right still and the gauge cluster is out. So I have no idea when its night time how fast I'm going or whether or not I'm redliningOMG

It seems as though everything that has to do with the dimmer switch is out.. meaning everything that can be dimmed is not working. I guess we must have tapped the wire into the dimmer switch instead of the headlight switch.

So my question is has this happened to anyone else and how did they fix and how much will it cost for a new dimmer switch? I checked all the fuses and that isn't the problem. All the lights work such as the check engine light, e brake light, fuel light, etc. I'm not good at wiring so I don't know where to start, any help would definately be appreciated!

I just spent $4k on upgrades so I'm not looking to spend anymore, thanks for any help

Jason

OK first of all never should you tap into t adimmer for power. It is not a constant seeing as how it can be turned off. You should have gone to your underdash fuse box and tapped into the instrument cluster open fuse section. So if you can disconnect the tap into the dimmer and re wire the dimmer switch. Its easy just cut and pull the wires than color match them. your dimmer switch doesnt have a fuse attached to it so it wont be dead. Also the same thing happened to me I had to replace the fuse under the hood for interior cabin lights. Its the one in the upper right hand of the box that is a dual fuse wrapped in the yellow casing. That made mine come on. Other than that I cant help you

Good luck

Get in there and check the back of the gauge cluster to make sure that its actually seated all the way in. Sounds like it isnt actually. You may want to go ahead and re-seat it into the small plugs and hope for the best. Thats what it sounds like it is.

This is my opinion since your stating that none of the gauges even FUNCTION at all. Check that or check the fuses.

Goodluck.

no its just the lights that don't work, the speedometer and tach work, just no lights.. Thanks for the help... and I found out that we tapped into the cigarette lighter and not the dimmer switch

yuuuuup taillight fuse. Happened to me one as well.

It wasn't the fuses at all, it ends up it was a bad dimmer switch. Just putting this incase anyone else has this problem later on. Took out dimmer switch and put a new one in. Works now.

In my 99 Gs, the Gauge Cluster lights all went out, and the ac/heater lights as well. They seem to be the only lights that are out. I checked all the fuses they're in tact. The turn signal arrows and dash warning lights work also. All the bulbs are fine too.

I took the entire cluster out and put it in my 97 Gs-T and they all lit up fine. So what could it be?

Trust me that was the first thing I checked. Even with the dimmer all the way down, you can still slightly see the gauges, but mine are pitch black, you can't read them at all at night.

Well the rheostats are notorious for going out. Pull the connector off it and ground pin 2 (black/yellow wire) with headlight switch on. If lites now go on full, your rheostat's toast. Otherwise the only other things in that circuit are the taillight relay (taillights work?) and it's fusable link, the 15A taillight fuse (in engine fuse box) and the wiring (broken wire under insulation near a connector?).

Here is what happened. I have had my car since summertime, everything worked fine. In Augustish I parked it in the garage to let it sit for awhile and I left it there for about a month, starting it weekly to let it run for a bit. Well I decided to take it for a spin just before Xmas in the snow to do some crazy AWD snow shit. It wouldn't start. I bought a new battery and it starts and runs fine. However, now my instrument gauges wont light up and neither will my taillights when I turn on the headlights. The headlights come on, highbeams work, and the lights on the dash work (hibeam light, SRS, all those informative lights like that). The brake lights work when you press the brake, but the soft lights when you turn on the headlights dont work. I checked the fuses under the dash for the gauges and it isn't blown, and I don't know why the dash would be wired to the tail lights. Regardless, I have no blown fuses. Then I thought it might be the radio (since it was taken out and there was nothing in at the moment). Stock radio back in and still nothing. I am going to look through my haynes with a friend, but anyone have any idea's? Thanks people.
