Princeton,
Alright I know the benifits of spraying nitrous into the engine will far out way cooling the intercooler, but what if you are doing some autoxing and want to chill the intercooler just before a race. You can buy paint ball gun co2 tanks from many places pretty cheap, they have a npt fitting on them, get and adpater run a braided line to a purge kit from the purge kit get some copper piping run like a rectangle around the intercooler and poke small holes in so will mist on. Just hit the button before a race instant cool, Co2 into engine is a bad idea right, so I'll probably be making a box for my filter. just some ideas so my sidemount doesn't heat soak should cost about 130$. to build being generous.

that's a really good idea. CO2 is COLD. i'm sure anyone whose ever played paintball has taken the bottle off the gun and it shoots liquid ice everywhere. well that's if you don't know what you're doing i guess.

yeah I need to be able to have a valve though, anyone know If I could by like a AN valve or something, and also just trying to buy a used purge kit, anyone have other ideas what I could use.

well driving home one day w/ my bro and a friend, one of the paintball co2 tanks (it was a 20oz) suddenly started sprayin #@%#@%#@%#@% everywhere and filling the car up w/ a cold fog. it was pretty funny while driving down the highway. LOL. i guess what happened was some little safety stem thing let lose to release the pressure in the bottle so it wouldn't explode. it was a pretty old bottle and i guess that's why. :D

Thats a kick ass idea! I'm actually going to do that very thing with my car. I think it would be cool (litterly) and also get the attention of some people. Folks reactions would be: Look there is that guy who is purging his NOS right at the radiator, what a dumb ass. You can take some some braided line from the bottle to the front of the car where the purge motor is and plumb hard brake lines capped off at one end and drill small holes in the line to use as an aiming device. I wonder how good it will do at cooling the intercooler, I assume better than water since it is alot cooler especially when the bottle has been pulled from quite a few times. I won't have to worry about a big ass water tank on board.

sounds lieka very good idea i play paintball and that #@%#@%#@%#@% is cold .......well keep me informed....im very interested in that will work.....

I got a honda fuel pump that pumps water from my windsheild wipers with a garden mister. The only problem our track guys would flip a #@%#@%#@%#@% if they knew. So i don't spray on the trtack

Its alot easier than you might think. If you know anything about paintball this will be very easy for you to understand, but ill try and explain it if you didnt know anything about paintball. supplies you need!

Co2 tank (12oz,20oz dosnt matter size)
remote (steel braided not coil)
when you buy a remote you need to make sure it has a on/off switch

A remote is a device you use in paintball to locate the air/source on your back and not your gun. helps keep down weight! this is used to feed the CO2 from the interior of your car to your intercooler. The only problem with a remote is that it is short. So what I would do is use the specs of the remote and make a trip to your local hardware store, buy a steelbraided hose with the same size fittings as a remote. Im not sure the specs of the fittings of the top of my head.

You need to find a place inside your car that you can mount the c02 bottle upside down and easy to get to. You need to mount the co2 tank upside down so it can flow the liquid co2 onto the intercooler not just the c02;) . some paintball tanks come with what is called a antisyphon tube that lets you mount the bottle right side up and still get the same effect. Most tanks dont come with this offered but some do! I found that if you mount the bottle to the right of your right leg on the console down low it works fine and it stays out of the way!

after you run the hose from the enterior to the intercooler and mount the bottle you are done. You can reach done to your bottle and turn the on/off switch to on for a couple seconds and your done! it dosnt take much liquid c02 to freeze soak your intercooler.

I have been doing some research and Nitrous express is making a kit that purges onto the intercooler, it cost alot plus you have to be using nitrous to use it ( obviously)(sp)

do you think it would be a good idea to start making my own kits? and selling them for $150-$200, just a idea would it be something you guys might want to buy? Oh by the way I played paintball on the pro level for about 4 years:thumb:

good luck hope this helps at all!

Well, I guess Ill throw my 2 cents in here... anyone that plays paintball has seen the noobs out there with their CO2 tanks in the sun and then BOOM.... the rupture disk in the valve blows and there goes your CO2... this is because CO2 expands when it gets warm... so I think that it would be a cool idea (no pun indended!), but the main problem would be making sure that the tank stays cool when it is in the car....

it takes about 10deg for a co2 tank to rise 1psi! so yes if you overfill a c02 tank and then get it hot the rupture disk will let go. If you have someone that knows what they are doing fill your tank then you shouldnt have to worry. once you use it one time you should never have to worry about it! I am going to look into making some kits for people please send me a PM if you would be interested in buying a complete kit! thanks

depending on what kinda feedback ill get I will build you a custom kit for your car! just let me know thanks.

You could always make the tank quick disconnect and only have it hooked up on the days you really need to use it, such as track days and such. I know for my car since its only used for racing it seems like a good idea. For your everyday driver car I don't know?????

HOLY CRAP.....ya this idea is very cool... i am a paintballer and i no that this will help cus we sprayed my freinds intercooler with a fireextinguisher and intake manifold before he raced and it helped alot..

 I don't know if i am wrong or not. But spraying CO2 sounds good, but won't some of that go into the intake causing the combustion to not do as well. Seeming that CO2 puts out fires, will this hinder performance or no. Just wondering, but if it works i'll def look into getting one.

good thought, but co2 sprayed onto the intercooler will dissipate as soon as it is sprayed and there is no way it will make its way to the intake. the co2 will be sprayed about 1/2" away from the intercooler and as soon as it hits the intercooler it will cool down the intercooler and the evaporate:thumb:

Kits are coming along nice, I have all the parts and IM building kits now. IM building a kit that is very similar to the nitrous express kit but with no electric’s involved. All manual very easy to install. In the above video the kit only uses one nozzle to spray onto the intercooler, only really hitting one area! My new kit hits every inch of the intercooler making sure the entire intercooler gets really cold!! please let me know if you would like a kit! ill tell you prices ETC

Now, I got a question...

I dont' know much about cars, and I just got me very first car a few months ago. A 90' TSI AWD w/ 159k miles on it as of now.

Now, I understand the workings of these kits you're making, but I'm unsure of something.... What is the exact result of freezing your intercooler? Does it add hp? A boost in speed?

Thanks! :)

The colder the air you have the denser the amount of the air is. So the more air you have the more HP you make. Ever notice when its real cold outside how your car feels faster? well this kit will make your car feel that fast all the time. plus reduce your intake temps by tons

Coolness!

Thing is, I've played paintball alot before. I've got me own gun (a Spyder Shutter, nothing special), and know how fast those co2 bottles run empty.

How many shots onto the intercooler would you get out of a 20oz bottle?

Also, hangin co2 bottles upside down has been known to let it leak a bit. Will the remote stop that?

Thanks again. I think this co2 kit is a great idea. If I don't make my own, I'll probably buy one off ya.
