Here is a before and after shot of my exhaust turbine. Yesterday my EGT probe decided to dislodge itself after what seems to be my timing belt skipping a tooth or two.

Question is -- how bad is this damage performance wise? The turbo only has roughly 30-40k miles on it and MINIMAL if any shaft play. Since there is some material missing from a few of the blades, will this throw the balance off really bad?

*just trying to weigh my options . . .*

replace that wheel!!!!!! it may have a hairline fracture in it somewhere and it wont be worth it if it decides to come apart at 50,000 rpm...also as stated always place the egt downstream of the turbo for this very reason...:dsm:

Yeah, I had considered tapping my down-pipe with a bung for the EGT, but I read so many articles where ppl had tapped the exhaust manifold and gotten reliable results.

chalk up one more for putting it AFTER the turbine

hmmm . . . well this one was an Apex'i and had only 5-600 miles on it :(

i think it alos depends on the quality of the egt probe and how often you replace it. I have a westach that i replace every 8000 miles and never had a problem so far.

Yeah, probably . . . but that's one expensive defect

well with that many miles on it, probably was just a faulty probe maybe with a hairline crack in it somewhere.....

but what if you taap the probe on the underside of the runner , instead of on the top side ?

I don't know where people tap it on the DP (im sure as close to the turbo as possible to get a better reading) but since an EGT gauge is a tuning tool, when your tuning,if your EGT goes up too high then you know you need to richen it up, vice-versa, so why does the actual number need to be exact, you really just need a "baseline" for your car (like what the EGT was when the car was stock) so you can compare off that. I dont think I made any sense

Yea can i get some pics of egt taped on a dp please can i want to put my egt gauge there too and since i have my hrc dp right here maybe i can do it before i put it on...
