ok tonight (friday) some kid with a completely stock, automatic, 1999 automatic Mustang GT wants to race me. I got a bunch of stuff laying around the house waiting to go on my car, but the only things installed are my upper intercooler pipe, 1g bov, dejon tool intake pipe, hacked mas, k&n filter..and thats all. I want to get my boost controller in and push a little more boost....but i dont have my boost gauge in yet so i dont think thats very safe.

so he tells me he wants to race for 50 bucks...ive never racen for money, but damn, im pretty sure i can pull on this car in the 1/4 mile and if i can get 50 bucks out of it then im going to do it.

so lemme know what you think, you think i will win? its an automatic so thats where i think i will get an advantage. and he said i can pop the hood and everything to make sure its all stock.

no way I'd take that bet. Several of my friends have auto 99+'s GT, they all run mid-low 14s around 100 and in good weather they're able to get high 13s. Unless you're racing a short distance, I wouldn't. He'll probably walk you pretty bad on the top end.

I agree with this all the way. You are gonna have to get that boost turned up and then you can take him. I raced a gt i dunno if auto or not from the line and left him. We did it from a roll i held on for a little but when he walked me he left me. And i have the exact same mods you have.

Agreed again, no go.

Until you're running 16-18+ PSI, I'd look for someone else to race.

See if he has any friends with stock 96-98's.

Even if you could get everything installed tonight and get ready to go, I wouldn't.

Reason being, turning up boost for the first time likes to make boost leaks appear. Gaskets and hoses that normally seal with your lower boost tend to blow and pop off when you up the boost for the first time.

Tell your buddy you'll race him in a week or so after you get your toys installed, tested, and tuned.

that's the truth. After I installed this turboback exhaust, I think my car found some new ways to leak out some different places and messed up my smooth idle :(

I have a 95 AWD Auto Stock w/e of free mods.

I beat a 94 5.0 5spd.. I pulled 1st from him like a mofoe, he pulled on me on 2nd... and when he hit 3rd i pulled from him. and i beat him by half a car.

I dont know much about first gens, but I beat my cousins 2000GT 5 speed w/cold-air, x-pipe, flowmasters, chip, pullies, different rear-end, and a King Cobra clutch. There may be a few more, but I swear to god I beat him by about, oh...say a door or two.? Still beat him though. Kinda impressive if you look at my mod list. Theres not much there. I think you may be able to give him a good run.

.

I agree with that.

Ok, I have basically the same mods as you, K & N Intake, upper ic pipe, blitz BOV, my boost is up to 11, 3" exhaust system (no down-pipe)... and I raced a GT..I beat it, but this was from a stop. If you don't have an exhaust, or if you are going to race him from a roll DONT do it. With AWD you will have an advantage off the line and depending on how long the race goes you should be able to go and not look back...problem comes around midway through 3rd gear..our top end sucks so this is where the mustang will pull if at all.

There are just too many factors, the mustang driver could suck, your driving skills might not be great...but in terms of CAR for CAR, I think you'd beat it low-end but top-end the mustang would have you.

If you don't have an exhaust system, don't do it.

I agree with the turning up the boost isn't a good idea until you tune and do a few runs. But I think with your current mods you would have a good chance. I was riding in my friend's Del Sol(GSR swap) and we found a 2000 GT 5spd(hot chick driving, and yes she could drive very well). Had basic bolt ons, and we pull a half a car on her everytime off the line. Thing is I raced my friend when I just had a K&N and pull 3 cars on him. So I think you'll do okay, but if you wanna just be safe and wait till you get your stuff in then see if he'll wait but I doubt he'll want to. Just keep us informed.:thumb: remember:dsm: :laser: :talon: > Ford

RomEo:talon:

I would race him for fun, with no bet.Just to see how your car fairs without adjusted boost.:thumb:

Sounds like these guys have a little bit of ego involved with this race. I doubt it would just be in fun.

Does anyone get the feeling that most of our cars run differently, some better, some worst? You hear one story of a stock GS-T pulling on a 2000 GT, then you hear a suped up GSX being killed by the same car. I think some cars just come out of the factory a little faster then others, although driving does have somethign to do with it, i dont think it has all to do with it. my friends stock 01 mustang, regular and not GT, beat a suped up 350z. His mustang is fast for no reason at all. its what some of you guys say is a "factory freak", but others think they dont exist. i believe they do. kinda makes me mad mine isnt. but ive won my fair share, even tho im non turbo, ive taken a VR6, and several others.

Umm. A stock 01 mustang only has 193HP. There is no way in hell that you beat a 350z... you might of... if the 350z stayed in 2nd gear the whole race.... The 350z VS the Mustang GT manual is a good race, not a V6 99+ mustang.

i was sitting in the passanger seat and saw it happen. we had him the whole way until we got up to traffic. had him while we were weaving for a while at around 70 or 80 until he got up to us and passed us. we had him in the open.

if you say it happened it happnd, yet the fact is. There was something seriously wrong with his car or he stayed in 2nd the whole time..LOL.

The 350z runs a good 287 horsepower weighing 3,197 LBS
V6 mustang runs 193HP and weighing in at 3,065

Now look at the stastics.

Something was seriously wrong with that 350.

Ya what you say makes sense. this kid makes up a lot of stories about races... like against Z28's, and other cars. he never seems to lose either:confused: LOL. but this was the one race i was actually there to see. his car is fast tho, its faster then my friends 3000gt which comes at 220 Hp. so i dunno either somthing was wrong wiht that Z or my friends car is a SUPER FACTORY FREAK. im guess something wiht the Z. but he was racing us, it was obvious.

Racing a 94-95 5.0 is like racing a different car. They run maybe high-mid14s stock. In 96 GT's received the 4.6L, and in 99 it received a hp jump w/ different heads, cams, and intake. If you have an awd and the GT stayed decently close to you after you launched, you're gonna lose on the top end. I've driven a 96 GT w/ a few boltons, and once you get to a roll, there's no way my 90 feels as strong. Only way I'd hang w/ a 96-98 is if I launced the piss outta it hoping he messed his up.

And the 99+ feel so much stronger. But racing stores on the street don't mean much, too many variables. If you've actually raced them at the track, then that's a different story.

Well theres a big difference between the 96-98s to the 99+ GTs... about 45hp difference..LOL.

I personally disagree with the 96-98 story. they a terrible years for the GT name. 215 horsepower and it only ran 15s. Your average GSX with about 200 dollars worth of work blows the 96-98 GTs away.

As for the 99+ , the GSX doesnt reallly have a chance. in his current condition.

I wouldn't say terrible. 74-78 were terrible :) Only good thing from that period is they were able to keep the mustang name going.

The same one I drove (all stock) went 14.9, 15.0 several. I haven't raced mine yet, but I guess I'm still partial to torque from a v8. Another one of my friends has a 97 GT and has gone 14.3 w/ boltons. They're no slouch. 200hp seems low, but they also have alot more torque across the whole band.

I'd been happy w/ a 96-97 GT. They got plenty of lowend grunt to keep up while keeping the revs down under 2200ish. I can do it in my talon, but it is slooooooooooooow. main reason I didn't go w/ a mustang was bc I couldn't find a decent one in such a low price range, plus the aftermarket sucks for the 4.6. Sucks bigtime.

ok so i raced him...i blew everything off that i heard on this post and figured with my awd i would blow the doors off of him from the stop and he could never catch up...

this is what happend......

we line up his friend gets out and gets in the middle of us, were both revving getting ready to go. His friend drops down his arms and were off. My launch is beautiful and i pull 3 cars very quickly. middle of second gear the gap is closed to 2 cars. The end of second gear its about 1.5 cars. 3rd gear comes and were nearing the end of the race, i think i have him until middle of third gear he starts pulling on me like crazy and passes me about 40 ft. before the line...he ended up winning by about a car.

Damn, they pull hard as hell from about 40 on. It was a damn close race tho and I told him we will go again after i get my evo manifold, licp, and my boost controller on. I think i will take him with that stuff.

so anyways i payed him his 50 bux and sat back and watched some more races. It was all fun tho. I was pleased with my race, I had until the last second of the 1/4 miles. Oh well tho, shit happens.

:thumb: At least you raced him instead of just talking about it.
