well i baught my 96 tsi almost 3 months ago and i was under the impression that there was no alarm in the car, then tonight i went to a store and when i went to unlock the car the alarm just went off and im like wtf, so i waited out the alarm and drove home. When i got out of the car and opened the door the alarm went off again. I dont really know how this happened cause i drove the car like i normally do, since its always been cold weather since i got the car i havent really done anything to it besides install a cd player and subs. I have seen remotes for factory alarms on ebay so the only thing i can think of is that the car was equiped with a factory alarm and it was just never activated but somehow it just activatd itself.....Im just looking for any info that would help me figure out what happened and what i can do to maybe get a remote for it or something.

also there is a strange switch in the car witch could be a kill switch for the alarm but it is in plain sight not hidden, i got the car from a dealer and they told me that the guy who orignally owned the car had an electrical problem witht he cars blowers and he wired them up to the switch so theyd either be on or off, as opposed to having it fixed. But the blowers werent working when i baught the car it was the only problem so im not positive that this is true, the delaer said that they randomly stopped working about a week before i got it. I havent had the time/money to have the blowers looked at yet.

any info would help me out right now, thanks

You would probably have to talk to the parts department at a Mits dealer to get a remote for your car. It has a simple alarm with starter kill and keyless entry. They should be able to find some information for you by your VIN.

im pretty sure its factory alarm, and it hasnt gone off again since that day so i have no idea hwy it went off. but the remotes on ebay seem to be just for keyless entry and some have a panic button, would i be able to control the alarm with that?

Dude the same thing happened to me... kinda...

I would unlock the door with keyless entry and everytime i opened it either side it would take a shit. I was like sh*t this is gonna cost me some cash, so I couldnt even open the door and to save myself the embarasment i didnt drive my car a day. So I let it sit... the next day I tried it again and all was well hasnt done it since...

DSM FOR LIFE, I GUESS...

Stop the car, pull out the key and open the door. If the green "SECURITY" light comes on to the right of the speedo, you have one. Any remote with FCC ID: GQ43VT6T. I'd thought the alarm was standard on the TSi, but the brochure here indicates "O".

Don't you have to initiate the door lock for the GREEN Security light to come on. Also if your little button on the door jam is broke, you can shut the door and lock it with the key and see if the green security light goes on.

I experienced a similar problem yesterday. When I was sitting in the school parking lot waiting for my girlfriend to arrive I accidentally hit the lock button on my keyless entry, therefore setting the alarm. When I went to open the door the alarm goes off. I wait for the alarm to finish then unlock, lock, and unlock it again trying to clear out its settings. Well I walk around the car to get my books out and when I open the passenger door it goes off again. I figure there’s no way to make it stop so I just go inside. Later that day I go out for lunch and unlock the doors with the keyless entry. I go to the passenger side and put my books in, everything’s fine. Then I go around to the driver side door and it goes off again. I wait the alarm out for third time and spend the rest of the day unlocking the doors with the key, which seems to have made it stop.

If there is anyway to turn the factory alarm off once it's gone off I would appreciate the information.

To stop the alarm once it is beeping, you just put the key in doorlock and unlock door. This will stop it from alarming. I don't understand when you said,

Well I walk around the car to get my books out and when I open the passenger door it goes off again.

How did you unlock the door to open it. Did you use a key or the remote.

If the key is not in the egnition and you are in the car with the doors locked, if you try to open doors the alarm will sound.

dude if you need a remote , i have one for a you. I will sell you for 5.00 plus shipping. I tried to reprogram mine a 1000 times and it just doesnt work. the 95 talons dont have the programming "box" located in the car for easy programming and the "jump" method doesnt work for me either. You want it email me

for my 97gst stock alarm, to disarm it, i just put the key in the door hole and unlock the car with the key to disarm.

Yea, I had the same problem with my 97 Gs-T.

The window was open and I reached in to unlock it from the outside (pushing the unlock button on the door panel) and it started going off. I had no idea the car had an alarm so I almost crapped my pants. I waited 5 mins and it still kept going off. Then I tried the key trick and it worked.

Anyone know which remote will work with the 97 Gs-T factory alarm?

I have a odd alarm also. When i bought the car the guy gave me the remote for the keyless entry and said that it didnt work, and he was right it didnt seem to work. a while later i had my car sitting out in my back yard driveway and as i was walking towards it this alarm starts going off for no reason i wasnt even close it, it freaked me out cause i was under the impession i didnt have a car alarm. The only i could think of why it did is cause i was on a wireless phone while i was walking towards the car and i figured the signal from the phone tripped it(only thing i could think of). I ran up to the car and turned it off by unlocking the door with the key, but later that night it went off again for no good reason. Then the next day it went off while i was at work, dont know why i was in a building and the car was outside. However after that ive noticed that on occassion the green secturity light will come on when im getting out of the car and lock/close the door randomly, i have to fidle with the locks to get it to go off so i can walk away and not worry about it going off. So whats up with my alarm? how can i fix that thing??? maybe my keyless dont work cause its dead or something?

Hello. im happy so issues, and i am pretty tired and mad about this..

So today i got my Remote for the Keyless entry, for my 98 eclipse gst!, and i went to do the procedure for programin, i close all the doors (trunk hood, doors), i go to groung pin 1 on my Data Link Connector, i grounded it to body first and nothign happen, when i move the key to ACC and back to off, try it many times, so i tried to ground it to pin 4 to see if that was the problem, and still same thing, it wouldnt unlock/lock at all.. nothing, so i stopped and coming here now to see what you guys think.. ye si have the alarm system, i took the left rear cover and see it there, also, the green security light comes on if i close dooor with key..

Please help me out, thank you...

Quick way to find out if your car has an alarm. ITS IN THE MANUAL as well. Lower your windows. Turn your car off. Lock the doors. Wait 30 sec. Unlock the door from the inside and open it. If it goes off you got urself a fac if u dont, you need one. LOL

To reprogram your keyless entry system for a new key fob:
1) Turn ignition to OFF.
2) Ground pin 1 of the Data Link Connector (black 16-pin connector under
dash driver's side). Pin 4 of this connector is a ground, so placing a
jumper wire between pins 1 & 4 will accomplish this. Grounding pin 1
tells the system you are getting ready to reprogram it.
3) Close all the doors.
4) Turn the key to ACC, then back to OFF. The power locks will
lock/unlock. The system is now ready to be programmed.
5) Press a button on your key fob 3 times.
6) The doors will lock/unlock to signal that the codes were received.
7) If you have two key fobs, press a button on the second fob within 1
minute of pressing a button on the first one 3 times. Both must be programmed at
the same time.
8) The doors will lock/unlock to signal that the codes were received.
9) Remove the connection between pins 1 & 4.
