alright heres my idea i want some input from other dsmer's... i'm thinking of moving to a 2 sidemount aftercooler system with pvc piping... i waz thinking of going 2.5inch pvc from the turbo to the top of the drivers side aftercooler and pvc from the bottom of that one to the bottom of the stock aftercooler and then pvc to my 2g tb elbow... think its a good idea? i waz also thinking of running stock 2g aftercoolers because from what i know the 2g ones have larger inlets and outlets and with 2 that would be important. what do ya think? thanks for the space

I don't think there's enough room behind the driver's side to put an intercooler there. PVC is not what you want to use because there's no beads on the ends and the hoses will just blow off. I tried this on my last car and it didn't work. Pipes just kept blowing off. An exhaust shop may be able to bend the pipes for you to use.

i've been running pvc from my bov to my tb elbow for a while and havent had any problems... what do u mean by beads??

On most intercooler piping there's a bead weld or bump out to keep the pipe from blowing off under pressure. I knew someone else who was sucessful with pvc but it doesn't always work.

right right... the bead weld is a little bit of a problem... hmmm. pvc is rated at certain tempatures and i would find some very high temp pvc b4 putting it on... also if it doesnt melt with hot hot water i would think it would be even less apt to melt with pressurized air...or could i be wrong?

i ran pvc piping for about a yr with no problems.

A way to get around the "no hose lip/bead" issue is to buy a coupler that slips over your PVC and cut it so it makes a nice bead. Then use PVC glue and primer and stick that baby together. Then just use hose that fits over the OD of your coupler....

More important than the PVC issue is the pressure drop issue that I think needs to be raised. With all the extra piping that does not help cooling, I wonder what kind of pressure drop you'd see running 2 IC's, and if the engine would heatsoak the one on the driver's side more quickly...

the beading problem can be solved various ways... but the heatsoak of the first intercooler could be a problem, but i dont think it will be a a huge deal... i dunno maybe it could, i would love more input and it would be awesome if someone that has used 2 aftercoolers could give some advice... and thanks all for the input already given

The problem with running two IC that way is there will be too much pressure drop. The best way to rig up two IC, and this is the way Dejontool did it, is to run the piping in parallel. Have a Y joint just after the turbo so the air goes through both IC at the same time, then another Y joint after the IC's.

Air temps after the turbo can get up to 300 degrees F. around 17 psi with small turbos. A big 16G running 24 psi can put out 400 degree air temps even with moderate air intake temps.

Settle your mind. Think it's summer. Evening. Warm, nice out. You're sitting out on the patio, just finishing off a mai-tai. There's a candle on the table.
You move the paper umbrella to one side and take the straw from your drink, lean toward the candle, and with a brisk puff, blow out the flame just before you pass out [so, four mai-tais _was_ a bad idea].
In your dazed dream, you're still trying to blow out the candle, but the little cocktail straw has turned into a paper roll from a wall-to-wall carpet. No matter how hard you huff and puff, you just can't get enough wind through that paper pipe to put out the candle.

You have lived pressure drop.

See why we don't have a section anywhere on the web about "How To Use Two Intercoolers Instead Of One"?

Meanwhile, there are hundreds of pages about "Slightly Larger Intercoolers Work Lots Better".

yes its a good idea but did u ever think of the pressure drop ull get from the turbo to the motor...ull most likely be runnin like 18psi u might get 15psi sent to the engine.....

if u do it right it might not drop much...might as well get a front mount for 200 dollars and deal with a 1psi or half a psi drop

not a bad idea...look at the 3000gt setup...they have dual intercoolers

yah the pressure drop would be the problem i couldnt get out of... and it would probably be a better idea to go with a cheap front mount aftercooler rather than 2 sides. thanks for the info

have you ever thought of the best and simplest idea of all?
run a good size fmic and then you wont have to worry about the preasure drops and all the piping issues and be just as happy
