i have been removing some of the weight on my 90 gsx. i have removed all the a/c bull, front bumber reinforcement (had to), and of course stock exhaust. i was wondering if taking the back bumper reinforcement hunk of steel is a good idea? i don't really want a floppy back bumper. zip ties from hell? also what else can i do. oh ya i took the spare tire and jack out. LOL i don't want any weight reduction to be very noticeable.:dsm:

take out the muffling from underneath the carpet, it weights about a ton, not really but all the people do it. the only drawback is that it's goning to be louder inside. But I've heard that u can buy a lighter one online somewhere that does just as good of job and it's much lighter. I don't know what else u can do that won't be noticable

Rear seatbelts
Rear wiper motor assy
Front/rear sway bars (if you dare)
Spare tire/jack assy
A/C unit w/condensor
Swap to a manual rack for steering and lose the ps pump/lines
Dejon tool front bumper support
Dejon tool rear bumper support
Un-needed stereo equipment (subs, rear speakers etc)
Washer fluid resovoirs (back and front if equiped)
Lightweight rims/tires
Yourself (if you're overweight LOL.....)

Get creative.

You could also replace all your windows/glass with Lexan and get carbon fiber: doors, rear hatch, hood...and get them all painted to match...that would save a lot of weight

Any other idea's, i'm also trying to go fast and look stock. I want to have a solid 12sec dsm with 14b and alot of weight mods.

Anyone swaped over to a manual steering rack, i've been thinking about but want more details.

I agree, get carbon fiber. But don't paint it, paint adds weight.

Dude, you really need to tune/drive better. There have been pretty much full weight 2G's in the 12's with stock side mount/fuel system with the 14B.

If you want to drive a tuna can, go right ahead. That's your priority.

IMO, the rear bumper is not worth removing unless you do not drive your car on the street. Around here the drivers just suck too bad to risk it. As far as removing weght is concerned, these are the weights I have found on my 1g FWD car.

Front bumper support 35lbs
AC system/emissisions 44 lbs
Front seats 42lbs each
Electric seatbelt setup 40lbs (est)

I wish I had weights for the rear hatch and glass, I beleive it is close to 80 lbs. If you replace it with a fiberglass/lexan one, it will take weight off of the best part of a FWD car, the rear. Be careful if you actually race it though, because having stock glass is REQUIRED for most racing classes (including the Shootout for everything except Quick 8)

Lightweight wheels/tires is a really good way to remove unsprung wieght from your car. According to this website, losing 36lbs of unsprung weight is equal to 108lbs of weight removed from the body of the car. I'm sure there is a formula to figure this out somewhere. Be careful about what kind of tires you get though, as some of the better tires also seem to weigh the most. There are other, more drastic weighs of removing weight, but unless you have a full race car or are just insane, they arent really worth it in my opinion.

My front bumper is out, bumper is kind of flimsy, think about rear bumper but not sure how flimsy it willl get. i know the back bumper is suposed to be 35pounds and the complete front bumper w/ supports is 43. Man i didn't know the seats were 42! i knew they were heavy though, are the electric seatbelt assemblies 40pounds for both sides totaled or on each side!!?
Travis

I think its about 40 lbs for the whole setup. Both motors, the tracks, and the center and outer seat belt reels.

The manual steering conversion saved 17 pounds on my car. That includes the rack all lines, pump, belt, pulley, resevior, plus the bolts might be a few ounces. It also frees up some power since the engine doesn't have to turn the pump.

You can also remove the heat sheilds around the rear muffler and in the center tunnel. Removed cruise control saves about 8 pounds. Converting from leather to cloth seats saves about 8 pounds each. get a lightweight battery, remove the stock body kit.
A shorter shift knob should also save 20 or 30 pounds.
