Ok well I took the valve cover out of my 1g and I've been sanding it down and getting it ready to paint. What i'd like to do since my wheels are gun metal I plan on painting my intake, hard ic piping, and valve cover all gun metal. I've seen gunmetal wheel paint, but I don't think that could take the heat. Does anyone have any idea where I could find gun metal paint or if there is a clear coat that could protect paint that isn't high heat resistant?

Thanks
Rob

Your valve cover, holding 270° oil, won't be getting as hot as your wheels will from brake friction- one of the payoffs to alloy wheels is as heat sinks for the brake rotors/drums. Wheel paint should be fine for the engine parts on the cold side and the block. It just won't work on the exhaust side.

Thanks alot for the info. I thought that the top of the block would get really hot. Thanks alot once again, that makes my job a lot easier. Should I use a primer? I have it down to the metal (valve cover) and its polished for the most part now. Would I need a primer?
