Hi,

I had this idea and thought it was really great, and then with some advice and talking to my friend, who has a modded Audi A4, I have come to this:

You would have a temp. sensor in the one of the endtanks on the FMIC, or you could use output form sensors that are already in the car. These sensor outputs would run a automatic FMIC mister, like a Nitrous Express mister. You could use the windshield wiper fluid tank as that tank for the liquid, if you were not going to use NO2 like in teh Nirtous Express one. I think this would be espically good for road race, auto crossers, or rally racers, along with Drag racers becasue I think it would almost eliminate heat soak (even though this is not a big issue on FMIC). A kit for a SMIC could also be made to help them with heat saok to the SMIC becasue it is a bigger issue for SMIC.

What are your opionons (spelling) on this. Has this ever been done before?

Hi,

Explain how you would use a Hobbs Boost Switch, I have only been able to find them used to spool up a turbo quicker, through making the wastegate not open as soon as it normally would.

The hobbs switch works by just activating a 12 volt signal when a certain boost pressure is reached.
If you want say... a sprayer motor to come on at 10 psi, then you get a 10 psi hobbs switch, connect it to an intake manifold pressure source, and then connect the motor to the hobbs (with a relay). When 10 psi is reached, the hobbs activates, and your motor turns on.

The big problem with spraying water on things is most tracks don't allow, or highly frown upon getting water all over their driving surfaces. I know it's just a mist of water, but that can be enough to cause problems for people behind you. So, it's not really that good of an idea for track use.

I beleive the new EVO has an automatic IC-sprayer, though I don't remember if they ended up including it or not on the US version.

The Hobbs switch would work much better then the temp. sensors that I thought of. I think that the US Spec EVO VIII has a FMIC mister that needs to be activated by the driver, it is not automatic. Thanks for your advice on the automatic FMIC mister idea.

Thanks,
Bill

The us spec evo viii does have the mister, and it has a manual (push for mist), automatic (not sure what triggers the auto mode) and an off mode.

Having some sort of automatic sprayer for the intercooler is a good idea. Most of the sprayers I've heard about (non CO2 or N2O meaning water ) are sprayed internally. The nozzle is placed in an end tank (or both) to cool the air. With that kind of a sprayer you wouldn't have to worry about water on the track. :thumb: Keep up the good work and good luck with the automatic sprayer.

the "auto" isn't really auto, it is a predetermined cycle, I don't know what the cycle is, but it's like 10 sec. on 30 sec. off, you get the idea.
