Problem w/ Sunroof

I just brought my car out after a very cold winter some 4 weeks ago. It's starting to get hot here in Montreal and guess what? My stupid sunroof won't open anymore!!!

When I press the button, it raises ½ an inch then stops. It doesn't raise high enough, plus it doesn't "come out" above my roof like it should. When I try to close it, I have to press that stupid lowering button 4-5 times before it closes ans seals.

Now I don't want to destroy everything in my car, plus my repair book (Chilton) doesn't say sh!t about that part. What should I look for? Where should I look first? What tests do I need to run? Help me!

moonroof*.....check all the electrical connections because a mire may be loose...if not that the motor is shot...also try to lube up all moving parts...hope this helps

Cycle it open -gently- with the crank, and get some white lithium grease spray. BARELY lube the moving bits, cycle it a couple more times with the hand crank, and give it another try. It's just waking up slowly.

I'll try that lubrification thing over the weekend. If it's still not working, where is the engine moving that thing? Like I said, the Chilton book doesn't mention anything about a sunroof. Where do I need to remove panels to access that electrical engines? Somebody told me that moonroofs could have 2 engines to move them. Could that be the case for a 2G?

It's not so much an engine as a slotcar motor. Little dinky damned electric motor up in the headliner by the pushbuttons.

The motor looks about the size of a 7-day prescription bottle.

Sounds kinda like the sunroof itself may have jumped it's "tracks". I had this problem with my 2G after some dude on the highway forgot to clean the roof off of his car and lobbed a HUGE sheet of snow at my roof - dislodged the track on my sunroof.

I unscrewed the sunroof, removed the panel, and resecured the tracks - and everything worked great after that.

^ ^ ^ There's 3 Torx screws on each side, then the glass lifts off. Check the runners from there, and do a search for other threads- I've seen this mentioned before.
