i did a drift in a gravel parking lot today and now the car makes a wicked squeeling/grinding noise like finger nails on a chalkboard coming from the wheels. It happens when i'm going kinda slow, and when i apply the brakes, but not when i'm going above about 35. It sounds like there is a rock stuck between the pad and the rotor or something. Diagnosis? Treatment?

LOL...
your close in you diagnoses...
sounds like you need som enew pads dude, check your "brake wear indicators". Or just do exactly what you said as there very well may be a rock stuck somwhere, it has happened to me before

Look at the rotors too, you will definately see a chalk line or a scratch if something is wedged in there. Take each wheel off if you have to and get in there and inspect the brake system.
Worst case scenario...the rear differential, half shafts, or drive shaft.

I found out drifting in gravel is bad too. My right front splash guard was ruined. Sounds like the brakes are the culprit in your case. Hopefully nothing too serious.

nawwwwww, I didnt learn my leason that day. LOL  OMG

Alrighty..... after doing some research, and trying it.... I think I figured it out.....

This is gonna take some practice.....:p

This last weekend I went with a few friends to the track to see this event called "solouno"
That puertorican for "autocross".Well anyways I got to see some car drifting the corners while others youst brake and then steped on the gas.
Well I must tell you that does people that were drifting the got my atention I would of give anything to tackle the corners and try to drift them.
The cars that I saw drifting were as follows:
1.RX-7 TurboII
2.Impreza WRX
3.Nissan 240
4.1g Eagle Talon
Of all the above the Talon got my atention the driver was amazing and the way the car was taking the corners was incredible I did not know that the dsm was a good car for drifting!!

After the event was over I had to talk to the driver and ask him what modifications he had on his DSM for it to perform that way.
For my surprise the only mods were a limited slip diferential on the rear and some good tires and his HP needed to be from 250 to 280 so he can make the rear wheels slide fearly easy so he can control the drift.

My question now is can 2g DSM be used for drifting??
Ive been slowly geting all tha parts I need to convert my ride from GS-T to GSX.So far Ive got the gearbox transfer case and drive shaft I know that there is still a lot of more parts that I need but I am not in a hurry.

Has anybody here used the 2g DSM gsx for drifting???

yes it can be done, I have drifted my 2g before. its just something you have to practice,ALOT.

dont expect any help on drifting on this board or most other at that. DSMs in this country are drag cars unfortunately.

I WILL DRIFT MY 2G. I just need to get it running again :(

Where are all the Drifters at........ :p

Anyways,... Next year D1GP....... will have FWD drifting, along with many RWD cars..... The AWD Skyline's have been drifting for a while and are awesome to watch.... You can drift pretty much anything. Best part is you dont need many mods... a 140 hp car can drift very nicely.. of course the more hp,, the easier it is to loose traction. I hardly ever drag anymore..... I just hang out in the canyons, with my DSM........ My E-brake is shot.... but it's the only way to get my ass around some corners...

Anyone around my area looking for some good up and downhill racing, with no cars after 11 pm, and no cops...... PM me....... theres also a large area at the top of the canyon with a light pole.... great place for a meet.

I drift my gsx, it's fun. Some people will come on here and bla bla you're gunna break everything bla bla. I've got the LSD in my rear diff adn I think that helps. I did pop a tire off the wheel drifting once (pic is in a thread on here somewhere), but that's the only bad thing to ever happen to me. Practice alot, get as much power as you can, and have fun!

dude awd is a blast to drift with. I am more into road racing than drag racing even though i do drag sometimes. Anyway there is this road by my house twisty as hell usually I just drive it as fast as I can without driving to slide or whatnot but sometimes i just get the urge to slide the corner the feeling is insane. I used to do it in my 2g n/t and that was fun but nothing compares to awd its way harder than doing it with a rwd car but when you do get the hang of it you will have so much fun garunteed. Even my friend who has a 328is says that he likes it more in my car. Word of advice though it aint for the faint of heart if you get nervous at all while sliding and think you are going to hit a wall and freak out then you are done for once you go from the slide to traction there isnt any going back plain and simple so be careful when doing it.

i dont see why you would want to go awd if your into drifting

because I already have an AWD car and I like to drift.

Originally posted by allwheelTS I if you want to drift buy a RWD car, preferably with a V8..

V8 or not. it doesnt matter. When drifting the only things you should look for to achieve the minimal is a car in which you can induce over steer, and the ability to control the car when sliding.

I dont agree with the fact that FF cars are drift cars, but some guys do drift them. Some of them even are better than the FR guys.

As far as power goes... all you need is enought to break the tires loose and keep them spinning during the drift.:dsm:
