Hey guys, got back from the track on Friday and let me tell you, it was AWESOME! It was a blast! I wish I would have done better, I guess, but I guess it is alright for my first time out. Here is what I ran- any help, concerns, or think I should be going faster is greatly appreciated. I know that there are a lot of these threads but I am just wondering if you could help me on my specific application?

Mods:
1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST
K&N FIPK
Dejon Intake
Dejon UICP's
HKS SSQV BOV
Stock Boost+ the little restrictor removed from solenoid
Apexi N1 Catback
RRE downpipe w/ testpipe
Tociko Struts (had the back ones set to 5- stiff as they will go & the fronts at 1)
Eibach ProKit
Back Seat Removed + Spare Tire Removed + Jack Removed
Put on some drag radials (not slicks but sort of a street/strip radials)

(I spun a little bit out of first, got out of the groove a little bit because I was too busy looking at the cluster for my RPMs, and I missed 4th hints the low MPH)- yeah I need more practice. I got 4 runs in.

Best Time:
R/T= .670
60'= 2.435
330= 6.601
1/8= 10.008
MPH=74.22
1000= 12.833
1/4= 15.428
MPH= 85.79

Any criticism is appreciated. Thanks:thumb:

I can post the other 3 if you guys would like. But, they are absolutely embarrassing. Let's just say I got progressively faster each run as the night went on. haha

Get a Walbro 190 + MBC and turn the boost up! :thumb:

But really, you could definitely be hitting better times than 15.4, even with FWD. I ran [email protected] in my 94GSX stock with only a 6-puck clutch. Granted I have AWD, so I came out of the hole a lot faster than you, but I was still 4 MPH faster in the traps. Burn up those radials at the line and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! :rocks:

See, that is what I wanted to ask. Should I really burn them out? Like, get into the water box, yank up the e-brake and dump the clutch until I can see some smoke? See, I thought about that but I really don't want to be braking anything. To keep from braking anything I just got in the water box, dumped the clutch and let the tires spin, spin, spin until they grabbed. This is without yanking up on the e-brake.

I deffinately think that I can go for a faster time. But, all in all do you think it is a good first run?

First run not to bad there is room for improvement. Those 60ft are hurting you and you should be doing alot better if you have slicks/drags but hey you where out there so :thumb:

all you need to do is add a few more parts such as a AFC and Boost controller and set it to 15psi and tune the car with the AFC ...also taking your factory sidemount intercooler off and flushing it out can help get the gunk out of it !

When I had the t25 on my 97 GST 5 years ago I had

Thermal 3" Catback
Test Pipe
(stock down pipe)
AFC
Boost controller
Injen Intake
Buschur Upper pipe
Turbox's BOV
Sprotline springs
KYB shocks
Magnecore 8.5mm plug wires with BPR7ES
And Dyno tuned

I ran a 14.0@100mph

But you can do it just need a few more things and more time on the track :thumb:

get those 60's down and get lots of practice. find out what works and try different launching techniques until you get consistant.

heres a small example of how 60 foot helps ET from my recent exploits with FWD :)
60'=2.8... ET 14.7 @ 107
60'=2.1... ET 13.6 @ 108

good luck with everything

Thanks guys. Yeah, deffinately need some more practice. See, what was weird was my fastest MPH was 92 but it wasn't my quickest ET. I will report back when I get to the track again. But, does anybody have any advice on wether or not to burn out or just a quick little pull to spin the tires and get them warm? Thanks

Don't heat up your street tires at all.

Actually try to drive around the water box and just give them a quick little spin to get any rocks off of them.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do on a FWD with street tires to get any rockin' 60foots.

Thats not exactly true. The right set up can get you what you are looking for. Good clutch, and some slicks can really help. I have found that spinning out of the hole helps the 60 foot times on my cars. Use a 2-step and build the boost up to 5psi and launch hard on slicks. the wheel spin will grab by the end of 1st, and second should stick hard. Just be careful not to break axles. I know FWDs that crack off 1.7 60' with slicks... All Day.

If you would slowly read his post before saying thing's like this you would have noticed he said (Unfortunately there's not much you can do on a FWD with (street tires) to get any rockin' 60foots.)

As soon as school/finals are over, I'll be taking my T25 powered GST to the track for the first time as well. Hoping to break into the 14's but we'll see what happens.

Unless you're running slicks or drag radials (and radials are debatable), stay out of the water. Gotta work the clutch a little to get your car moving. The accelerator is not an on off switch ;) . You will find out the best launch with only one thing; practice. In the mean time, have fun getting there :thumb: .

Not too bad, now get rid of that T25 LOL.

I was reading in a magazine (Turbo?) about the waterbox. I'll try to find the exact article but to sum it up it was saying that unless you have drag radials dont spend a whole lot of time warming the tires up. It mentioned just to do a quick little burnout just to get all that crud off of the tires and to get them a little sticky. There was some scientifics to why they said dont stay there lighting the tires up but it is too early to remember exactly what.

I'll try to go find the article now.

I wish I could've gotten to see what the T25 could do before I threw the 14b on but it was the middle of winter and I live in NE PA LOL.

Practice, practice, practice. :dsm:

Actually, it was the April 2007 issue of Sport Compact Car.

Awesome. Thanks. I tried just about everything that night with the four pulls that I had. My best time, and also my last run so I guess practice had something to do with it, but my best 60' was when I went into the water box and dumped the clutch and let the tires spin in the water for a bit and gradually let it grab onto the dry pavement and pull me forward, and then I let off. Is this good? I guess next time I will try and go around the water box and do a quick pull OUT infront of the water just to make sure I don't get any water in them.

The thing was, the guy spraying the water would just spray the ENTIRE lane so there was really no "dry" spot to go around the water.

On my launch I think I got a little pedal happy and just jambed the gas pedal. I will try to control the throttle a little more. If it weren't for me missing fourth, it would have been an OK run, I guess. Thanks for the help, any other comments are very welcomed.

I am holding at 3,000 rpm and TRYING to slip the clutch. But, I think the nerves just get ahold of me and I just dump and go. Hince why I get the wheel spin. Should I try a lower rpm? I thought about it but, I don't want to bog and fall on my face either.

Well, I am shifting at 6 in just about every gear. So, by the time I get down the track, if I keep it in 3rd I am almost positive I would be going way past redline. Its not like I am just shifting into 4th right when I cross the line, I still got a little ways to go. Thats why I shifted into 4th. I just can't see staying in third till I cross

^^^Really?!?!?! I am shifting at 6,000 because that is just about where the t-too small starts to kick the bucket. And it looks like I won't be racing any time soon because of my clutch issues:http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=260003. If I should shift at anything above 6k then should I do that in 1st and 2nd also? Its just it seems like if I kept it in 3rd, that gear would just "run out". I am still very open to suggestions

And you know... I bet when I get this new clutch put in I will be able to just keep it in 3rd because it was slipping pretty bad (rpm's were climbing and I wasn't going anywhere) and when it was slipping I would shift at 6k but really the rpm's weren't going up that fast because it was slipping. If that makes any sense. Hmmmm- just now realized that. hahaha. Now I got to wait 500 miles. gggrrreeaaat.
