I'm not sure if this is a re-post. Even if it is a re-post it is worth reading.

Basically this guy painted his car with a paint roller!!! Many people are doing this....

and many more....

At first I thought it was crazy. But the more the read the more I plan on doing it. I'm going to try it on a hood first and see how the result goes...but that is not going to be in a few weeks from now. I'm still waiting on my engine head to get back. Trying to get the car running before I do anything else.

Well let me know what you all think.

Take care,
Joseph

Well I was gonna make a new thread, ### I could not find anything on this searching because the search wont recognize "50", but I stumbled upon this on my final attempt....I began the 50 dollar paint job yesterday in the Rustoleum Gloss Black oilbased enamel. So for I have only started my 2GB rear and sideskirts and I can say I am going to be pleased.

After prepping I layed the first coat...took alittle to get the paint to the right thinkness but its there now.. So heres the pics of the second coat

So far I have painted waited 20 hours then wetsanded with 800 and then applied the 2nd coat.

I still have to wetsand this coat and then apply 4 more coats total and wet sand 3 times more total then polish/buff and from what I have been seeing and reading it should look bad ass if I take my time.

after that the front bumper hood fenders, then hatch and roof then doors and Ill be all set.

Theres NO mess, I can paint down to 35 degrees and the satisfaction factor will be nice too ROFL

has anyone else done this?

wow if i didn't see the pictures, i wouldnt believe it. now it makes me want to go buy some busted up car shell and go apeshit on it with this technique.

Yes please tell us where you purchased the paint! Im starting to think that it is time for a new color for my spyder! That looks awesome! Thanks for all the info guys!:thumb:

I saw this a while back, definitely works. Seen it done on a bike, looked great. Props for actually doing it. Maybe I'll do it someday.

Bad assss! Def going to do it after my swap. Any specific paint to go with? I've read on a few sites some different paints to try. As well as rollers. Any guidance?

Home depot is where I got the paint and the 100% mineral spirits along with the WHITE 4 or 6 inch foam rollers. Im getting the hang of it now and as for clearing....theres also a roll on clear I read about but it was not recommended because it takes the workability away from the paint if it gets dinged or scratched bad.

As for a shine...after reading like 300 pages of info I was just told to buff with turtlewax polishing compound to a brilliant shine... Ill keep you guys updates with pics of the progress as I go. I just have to wet sand tomorrow after class and apply the 3rd coat.

You mean like "mirror" finish? I've seen it before, and its' crazy, absolutely crazy. Do it.

I painted my hood and bumper with rustoleum. Eventually i'll do the whole car...
It cost about $25
I sprayed it though, i didn't roll it.

Just got done wet sanding the 2nd coat with 600 and man the 600 got rid of the minor orange peel better than the 800, obviously. That being said the 3rd coat went on ALOT smoother than the 2nd and its looking really good. The article said wet sand after every 2 coats but I have been doing after each with good results..so I think Ill stick to that to keep it as smooth as possilbe. My next set of pics will be sometime this week end when they are all finished up..

and some more good news is the 27 foot pool that has been blocking my 2 car garage for 10 years is comming down as we speak! The bad news is Im doin it myself and Im busy as shit with everything thats goin on around here, but yea the rest of the car will be painted in a nice garage in about 2-3 weeks. Everything is looking good.

I did this painting technique to my car last summer and it turned out beautifully. Plus the owner before me had painted the top with the color changing paint. I got sick of it one day and on another forums read about the 50 dollar paint job and decided "I need to get rid of this ugly paint". A few weeks later it turned out nicely and I love it. Sanding is the key and don't rush it! I rushed the front end of my car and the doors back turned out much nicer. I redid the front only and now it shines like umm.. something thats very shiny.

I rolled mine with the rustoleum paint. I got the paint and mineral spirits from Ace hardware. Home Depot carries it and Sears does too! Sears doesn't have the gallon cans though but has a lot of colors. Ace Hardware has a large selection of colors too. Home Depot had fewer colors but had the gallon cans.

Goodluck to anyone attempting!

I have to say, I was pretty skeptical when I first read about this a while ago. But now that I am seeing a lot of guys doing it and having great results, I think I am going to have to try this. For those people that have done it, how much paint is actually needed, is 1 gallon enough? And the paint is just the regular rustoleum paint that can be bought from most hardware stores, right? I don't really want to re-read that giant mopart thread right now...
