Well... NASA just released the new (PT) or Performance Touring road racing class! :rocks:

http://www.nasaproracing.com/ (check it out!)

This will make for a fun (historic) and revolutionary race series. You guys can do all the modifications you want and race against like cars with matching mods. How cool is that?
I guess I might be changing to the Performance Touring "Super Unlimited" series to make it all worth while...

Have fun guys :thumb:

SO DO I GET TO TRADE PAINT???? :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Yeah, this isn't NASCAR. So the philosophy of "rubbing's racing" doesnt apply!! Though it could be fun.

hehe, what i mean is, do i get to race with other cars? or am i gonna be a cone commando? btw i do race in a nascar style event / sanctioning body

yeah, Road racing by definition is with other cars. NASA is just adapting the rules of their time trial events to work in a road racing setting. pretty ingenius in my opinion. Lets everyone race, and if NASA has set it up correctly, it lets everyone race competitively as well. Much better than the "mod up to this point" is a class system. I'm very excited to see this, and I hope it works out to allow NASA to get the recognition they deserve.

PERFORMANCE TOURING, gets its own web-site. Check it out:thumb:

EDIT: I did the points chart and ended up with 130 points and have to have a discussion with Greg Greenbaum about my engine swap (2.4 liter 500+HP) YEEEEE HAAAA!!!!

I will continue in "Super Unlimited"... this is what the sponsors signed up for OMG And... with the new motor, I should be able to do what's necessary:D

Well considering you won before with 330hp I'd think you'll be doing good with over 500hp on tap!!
I'm almost ready, I just need to buy my tires and I'm ordering my custom Butler seat friday and it will hopefully be here before the season starts.
I do have a question though: when I go to do HPDE 1 should I go on street tires, or my dot slicks??

So have you looked at your NASA seat thread lately? (There's some good stuff there):sneaky:

As far as the slicks is concerned: No! In your first couple of sessions stay on the street tires and learn car control. You'll definetly know the difference when you go to a better tire and be a better driver because of it. The guy that takes the perfect setup and doesn't know why it's a perfect setup won't understand the dynamics of what's going on. It's like the difference in braking before the turn vs. through the turn, when you understand it, it's like day and night (in overall lap speeds that is)!

Well, I've skimmed the thread...:D . I'm getting a Butler seat and printed out the regs for seats and mounting and I gave the info to the shop thats doing my seat so I should be good.
I've been on street tires in autox for a while now, and I'm switching to dot slicks for autox this year and wondered about that. I think I'll do at least HPDE 1 on street tires and go from there depending on what the instructor says and whatnot, thanx Greg.

About thirty years ago this old fart (he was probably my age now) took me out on the old Riverside Raceway (now gone) in a straight six, 1942 Ford. We're talking your basic rust bucket, with bald tires, probably running on five cylinders, and of course we had no seatbelts, helmets, or any other form of safety devices. He slammed the gears revving way beyond the limits of the old car, all the while the tires were screeching at every turn. He took every apex with the finesse of a Formula-1 exploding out onto the straights, then braking at just the right moment setting up for his next maneuver. I was hanging on for dear life as we ran at least a half dozen of picture perfect laps.

With the finish of the last lap we pulled into the hot pits with the radiator spitting steam and the smell of hot brake pads and melting rubber permeating the air, and then that old fart looked over at me and grinned. He said, "First you learn how to drive the damn thing..."!

Running on a track with long straights and wide open turns is extremely different then autocross. Figure your turning entrance and exit speeds will be doubled, minimum...

;)

Wow, its good to see someone actually took a logical approach to classing cars for racing. Hope this series does well, even though I can't afford to build a car for it, let alone run in it.

It is nice to know I'll be competing with cars of very similiar performance. As of right now I'm in TTE with the stock turbo dsm's and that's about right as I dont have the power but can take the corners a lot faster. I do miss the hp of the turbo though, I'll remedy that next winter!

I'm quite far from a pro license but it seems like I would have a lot sorting to do to get competitive by class alone.

52 mod points puts me in PTC and I know my DSM is slower than my EVO RS which is nearly bone stock.

Yeah, you've really got to play around with the points and the mods, but I see what you mean in relation to your EVO... The director said it's not all written in stone, and this year should be a good test for next years revisions.

haha, I'd be in PTB as it stands now with my crap suspension, 350hp and street tires. :(

Sweet, I would only be in PTD with 300hp, crap suspension, but on stock suspension I had no problems rolling it with the s4, legacies, integras I was with, although the s4 and legacy pulled away on the straights (was stock then!), but I pulled them back in on the corners, and that was with 60k mile old tires...

I like this classing...LOL...

Stupid Autox im in SM just because of my turbo and everyone is running r-compounds. I get rolled!

Quick question....Do modifications such as 1G head, 1G intake manifold, or 14 on a 2G constitute modification points?

It would seem that a 1G AWD would be a better starting platform mainly due to being able to place more points in suspension and tires, and only needing minor points under the hood to leash some serious power.

I'm guessing yes. They're backdate/update laws are pretty strict. For instance, if I had a 91 awd I could update to the bigger 93 awd brakes for no points. But since I'm a 91fwd and no fwd ever had the bigger brakes from 90-94 I have to take the points for a big brake kit with my car. This means that my stock padded, stock rotored, awd brakes cost me as many points as if I'd replicated Greg's Stoptech kit.
