Thought a couple people would like to see this because I see the question of people asking how much power can stock bottom ends handle and Well here is the story and the car... I hope it helps you guys out.

It started a little under a year ago with this post... my setup i ended up with is on the 2nd or 3rd page.

http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=195517

this is the vid of the car running at the track.

And this is it at the dyno.

Cool vids but I have to comment. I would never put a stock block threw big boost and spray. Even stock 6 bolt rods (if that is what they were?) couldnt handle that. Im sure the motor would have let go anyway even if you found no problems with the tune. Thats awsome to see 40+ PSi of boost on a stock motor. Anyway Imsure the next motor will be ready! Thanks again for the vids nice work!!:thumb:

39 psi i thought

36psi of boost, found out I had a boost leak after the dyno trip and blowing it up...

Believe it or not, that tune was run for a most of last season.

The nitrous wasnt sprayed yet, and yes we were kinda going there for the purpose of blowing it up :)

I have a built bottom end, head, and tranny along with bigger turbo going in for this season. Should see that much boost once again.

what we found from doing all this...

lots of tq, but peak hp WAY to soon at 6200 Rpms on all the runs
stock 2g intake mani's suck.

thats raw, thats a stock 7bolt bottom end? i can only imagine what was going on inside the motor. LOL

total leetness :thumb:

I watched the vid on KCSR as well. Very brave of you to finish it off on camera.:thumb:

Stock 7 bolts can handle more power than that, it wouldn't have let go if it didn't go lean...

it didnt go lean, it free rev'd... you are the weakest link, goodbye.

yeah i want to know what exactly caused it for sure. i saw that vid posted on crunderground a while back. awesome to see you on tuners.

You can see how the engine let go. The piston pin left the motor indicating rod falure to the max!! . If it were a lean condition or detionation at that kind of boost a hole the size of a half doller would have melted the top of the a piston or pistons very quickly and the engine would have just droped in power. It had a good tune to make 450 HP at the wheels (I would think). This was on a stock seven bolt with the smaller rods. The weak link in that motor is the rods as is every stock motor. Im surpised that it lasted that long.

a lot of his parts on that car are stock. the stock intake mani, the head isnt ported, its a 2g exhaust manifold, which is good, but there is a lot better, to me its basically a stock talon with a huge fmic, a nice fuel set up, a big turbo, street cams (correct me if im wrong as im not familiar with the comp numbers) and a 3 inch exhaust. and it put down 455 whp.... im not surprised it took 36 psi, most of his mods are supporting mods.

good job putting down 455 and good job doing it with the stock intake mani, transmission, and a bunch of other stock parts.

I made 425whp on my scm50 on a stock 2g head and intake at 25psi with a afc and not standalone like him. Jeffs 554whp on his stock 7 bolt was done on a stock head and intake at 34psi. So I think the tune was off to say the least.

Tune was on, there was a boost leak we noticed right after in the intake manifold.

Ouch ... That looks pretty painful. :barf:

So what's the significance of this boost leak in the manifold?
