whenever i was pulling my 2g motor from my car...the alternator plug was not pulled out and was stretched and the plug was ruined. I need to replace the plug now and was wondering if a 1g plug works on a 2g alternator?? thanks and does anyone have the plug and pigtail??? thanks

Going through the same issue except mine is just from taking it off and on correctly and heat over the years.

FYI: You cannot (least I haven't been able to) buy the pigtail from the dealer. Nor can you find it at any part store.

Your best chance is to source one from a 95-99 galant at a junkyard since at least in Atlanta your rarely going to find a turbo car with anything left there. It's the same plug on both cars. The wire colors are different so leave a little wire coming out of the old plug to match up.

Good luck.

Going to round 2 on the plug tonight. Going to get another connector from a galant. I can't get the plug to seat perfectly. I double checked the alternator and theres nothing in the way of the plug. If I push in and lift up on the plug it connects better. Drive for 10 minutes and it shifts back. I have a zip tie holding the plug on tight and its semi working but just isn't right. Very aggrivating!

Has anyone tried the Napa bosch alternator and external regulator? Or is this real?

I'd love to able to dial in the alternator to kick 14.0 volts with everything on. After 10 aftermarket remanned units going through the car in a year I've found a few things about them.

1)Alternators hate fluids. Well at least the regulators don't like them. If you have a ps leak, FIX IT FIRST. You've been warned. And assume that you're lower water line will burst immediately after changing the new alternator in just to make more work for you later. :) The alternators almost always put out some voltage. The internal regulators are what usually die. They either give WAY too much power (17volts that will pop a battery, twice now) or too little. If too little check the plug from the main harness and make sure its in solidly. Yes, turn the car on and wiggle the plug with your hand...don't burn your wrist on the manifold or radiator it makes the skin bubble. Use Napa brand premium belts. They fit WELL on the 2g. Change the belt when you change the alternator everytime for a little more insurance. PS belt changing is optional although recommended. Make sure the nutt the comes on the new alternator is tight against the plastic guard before installing. Not too tight or else you'll bust the plastic. Make the autoparts store bench test it when you buy it. Yeah brand new huh...we went through 3 one day trying to find a good one at the store. Hang on to your receipt and be nice to the counter people...you may be back sooner than you'd like.

To remove it: My record to date is 11 minutes from opening hood to pulling out.

Unhook negative terminal
Unbolt the 4 bolts on the Power Steering pump and place toward the drivers side fender
Push Belt back toward crank pulley
Unbolt the 3 bolts on the Power Steering pump bracket and remove
Unbolt the wiring harness (1 plug, 1 bolt with either 12 or 13 mm nutt)
Remove lock bolt on alternator tensioner. Lossen tensioner a few screws.
Pull up on alternator to lossen the belt pressure
Push belt off the pulley and let it chill up toward the crank pulley with the ps belt
Unbolt 12mm nutt toward the back of alternator and slide bolt out toward driver side fender
Wiggle Alternator up and out the top

When your putting back in, get a friend to help get the bolt to go through from the fender side so your not trying to hold/move alternator and reach to try and do the bolt. I'm 6"4 and its a mofo by myself.
