IM GETTING AN EVO 16G TURBO WITH TUBULAR MANIFOLD, TIAL 38MM WASTEGATE, AND SBR O2 HOUSING. I WANTED TO KNOW IF IT MATTERED WHERE THE EXTERNAL WASTEGATE WAS MOUNTED. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. IT IS PRIMARILY A SHOW CAR WITH LITTLE TO NO RACING. WOULD THE MANIFOLD MOUNT CLUTTER UP ENGINE BAY WITH THE WASTEGATE AND DUMPTUBE? COULD YOU STILL SEE THE WASTEGATE IF IT WAS O2 MOUNTED?? pLEASE HELP THANKS :dsm:

I have my 38 mounted on the manifold and have never once had a problem with it. As for cluttering the engine bay, it really doesnt, however I have noticed that mine is very close to my radiatior which is kinda annoying. If you were to mount the the O2 housing, you would still be able to see it, but it would be very similar to having 38 internal gate, except that it would be venting to the atmosphere.

P.S. - yur gonna love how it sounds!!!

It always made a lot more sense to me to have the waste leaving after the turbo.
That makes zero sense. The wastegate is designed to bypass exhaust gas from the turbine wheel to control boost. If the wastegate is mounted after the turbo, then it cant serve it purpose. There is no such thing as a wastegate mounted post-turbo.

HeadTurnin99GST - I perfer manifold mounted simply because it's easier. If you mount it on the O2 housing, then it will also require you to modify the turbine housing on the turbo to get the full affect and functionability of the wastegate. (IE. you will need to port the hell out of the internal gate passage) If you put it on the manifold, all you have to do it weld the internal flapper shut and then flange the manifold.

The choice is truly up to you. If done correctly, both will function equally.

I PREFER THE MANIFOLD MOUNT AS WELL, DAMN THESE CAPS SURE GET YOUR POINT ACROSS.

I like the manifold mount as well also you don't need to piss around as much if you had bought a manifold flanged for the external gate.

Another thing I like about it. Let's say you have your WG mounted on the manifold and you're running a 14b and you want to switch to 50 trim. All you have to do is weld the flapper shut on the 50 trim and you're good to go. If you had the WG on the O2 housing, you'd have to remove the internal gate from the 50 trim, then you'd have to do that porting all over again. Everytime you switch turbos, you have to do the porting again. Whereas, with the manofold mount, your manifold always stays the same and requires no modification.

I have mine mounted on the manifold and it makes perfect sense for all the reasons listed above. The only thing to worry about is how to support the wastegate on the manifold. It is really heavy to be held up by some thinly gauged tube.

Out of curiosity, where are you getting the tubular manifold from anyway?

<<manifold mounted here. I have a tubular DNP(equal runners) and a 40mm hanging off the collector. DNP's are pretty strong IMO, thats why they cost so much. I used to creep with mt internal...up to 4lbs. Now, I would have to think hard as to what boost creep is. LOL! The main reason i think a manifold mounted wastegate is better was already stated by 99gst_racer. However, you might run into some clearance issues.. With the DNP and the 40mm tial, I get to keep my stock fans.
