Okay, so i'm tired of reading all these threads to come up empty on my question. I'm rebuilding my 6-bolt and want to know how much power the 2G pistons can handle. I'm only looking to get about 400whp out of the engine. However, it may end up more like 450whp. Is that pusing it on these pistons? The rods should be good to about 500hp from what I've read. But is that at the wheels or the crank? I'm trying to keep the price down, but if better pistons on stock rods is what i need, I really need to know before i get too deep. I'll be contacting a few performance shops to get their answers too.

so i should buy $400 rods if i want a 400 hp DD?

no, Slowboy has their stage one motor with 1g big rods and says 500whp for it to handle.

There is even a guy making over 500whp on a stock bottom end 7bolt. If you feel unconfortable buy aftermarket rods, but around 400-450whp is aproching the limit for the 1g big rods.

People have at least run 11's many times and drove their cars daily on that same set up. I'm sure they were pushing 400hp at the wheels. I can't remember his last name but his first name was Nate who had a Galant VR-4 with that set up that ran mid 11's with Curt Brown driving it about 2 years ago. So it's possible but you can't tune quite as aggressive as with a built bottom end.

Andy Nash (MnDSMer on here) put down 531whp in a '91 Talon with 1G rods, 2G pistons, and a SCM61 either last year or late 2003.

1g rods on 2g pistons are a great combo to hold mid to low 500whp. its been proven time and time again. even al blaha back in the day with his fp red and running mid 10s had 2g pistons on 1g rods

Personally i'd go with J.A.M's(Jackson Auto Machine) 2g pistons/ring set. its at a very resonable price.. thats actually what im throwing on to my 1g rods right now!! cant wait to get em back from the guy thats machining them!

Thanks for the link. I was actually looking at those about a week ago trying to determine the difference between the 2g pistons and the "a little cheaper" Topline brand.

Dont get me wrong there's only an 85 buck difference which isnt a big deal but I was wondering just how the Topline ones performed. Stock 2g will most likely be my final choice.

Topline are below OEM quality.

How much boost can i run on stock internals?
Internals have little to do with how much boost you can run. A built motor will take more abuse (read, it won't die from knock AS quickly etc) than a stock motor. However, properly tuned, the motor dosen't really care if you are making 500whp at 30psi or 1psi.

The way I see it you are gonna spend a lot of coin to machine 1G rods to factory pistons. Don't you have to machine the side of the rod to? I would just get a forged set of pistons that fit and all you have to do is machine the block.

It's your motor man. Feel free to put inferior products in. It's worth getting OEM pistons.

Then why aren't they named "Bottomline"? hmmm...

I dont know what you're talking about. Im getting 2g pistons. That ^^ was a joke. Get it... "Bottomline" because they are at the bottom of the line.

This is why most people THINK they need a fully forged motor for there 16G car. If you call a machine shop I bet they will charge you less than a 100.00 to do all four. My entire short block to be assembled is only going to be about 490.00 and that includes 2G pistons on 1G rods.
