Ouch, you where the one who asked if you should let him drive it, I remeber that thread... ROFL Sucks about the car, looks like he went underneigth it.

Passenger door wants to hit passenger Quarter panel - Driver side fine but Radiator support wall is off kilter & radiator pushed back closer to Turbo so it will take a little trip to the Body shop for a frame tweek & re-alignment - I'm thinking it's time for a Vented Hood of some type & new bumper of some type. Tempted to just bite the bullet & hang an Aftermarket Intercooler & Turbo upgrade on the thing & REALLY screw it up :D It's been so damn reliable since I dropped about $4K in it last year - God forbid we have a RELIABLE car on the Boards ROFL .

My son took it hard, it really wasn't entirely his fault but he did put himself in a position to get screwed in traffic & it happened. I told him to take my car 3 times but he loves this damn thing... He was on an errand for me :notgood:

Thats not a wreck, thats a fender bender, you wanna see a wreck, go here

Update on this: got a letter from the insurance company saying that the accident was found in court to be completely her fault = we get our deductible back! Still doesn't bring back the car though

Don't mean to be an a-hole, just think, it could have been a lot worse, LOL, glad your son is OK.

Bummer Buck. Oh well, guess it gives you a reason to upgrade some stuff. Doubt you have any frame damage. Just looks loke the bumper and rad.

Sorry to hear and see that, I'll bet he's really feeling bad. From what I've read he's been a responsible kid so you can't be too cross with him. Wasn't this a graduation present last year?

It doesn't look that bad, you might be able to do the radiator core support in a couple or more ways. The upper portion/edge of the firewall is pretty strong, you can put 2x4 blocks in various locations and if necessary bridge across them with a longer block, use the scissors jack on it's side and then a longer 2x4 extension going to the top radiator support and then just jack it forward. You may have to loosen or remove fender bolts so it will move, you may have to use 2 jacks to coax it where you want, you may need to have 2x4 block on the radiator support to distribute the load. Do watch out though for you can get a lot of pressure and the jack or the extension can pop out in an explosive manner if the column is not straight.

Harbor Freight sometimes has sale on some basic PortaPower units, you can't use a hydraulic jack on it's side for it pumps air.

Hopefully the bottom core support has no damage for that is tied in with the monocock frame construction and that takes some real coaxing. An hour with the jacks might just have him back and running if the mounts aren't tweaked. You can use some scrap pieces of foam or carpet (though the carpet can slip) on the blocks to prevent scratching of paint. I have found 2x4s to be better than pipe for distributing the load. Four hands makes the job go faster for you will be trying to operate the jack and hold a bunch of blocks in place. Do pay attention to the firewall for it is possible to bend this if you get enough pressure.

You can also tie chain around the core support and attach to stout tree and run the car back to give a lot of force though this is less controllable but can take bends out of the monocock frame.

I've used cardboard in between the door and the fender to get this gap right. As mentioned above, you may need to loosen fender bolts to get the core support to bend back and then follow by adjusting the fender. You may find the hood hinges are bent and will need replacing. Let us know if you have any success.

Cheers,
GTM

it was a extream

Try that in a dsm and see if you come out alive. My accident was at 45mph head on with a 1ton truck w/ welding equiptment. We hit drivers side front to drivers side front... any other way and i wouldn't be here today.

Chained it to a tree & "realigned" the Rad Wall with a few Reverse slams - Found a good Silver 91 AWD TSI Parts Car - Gonna start salvaging what I need to get ole Red back on the road...

I opened the thread and thought to myself, "Great. Someone's resurrected Buck's old thread for absolutely no reason."

Now I am pleasantly surprised. Welcome on back, Buck!

Sometimes I get depressed when I open threads dating all the way back to those days. The other day saw one from I believe 2002.. I always wonder whether people 10 years ago still feel the same about their DSMs or if they moved on to super efficient gas saving ecoboost or whatever the hell that's called

Most have probably moved on. Hey Buck, don't forget to put a mechanical oil pressure gauge in :)
