Ok we all know that early 1G's have a 6 bolt that dominates and 2G's have better exhaust manifolds, 1G's have better BOV's and '95's get the best ECU, and on an on. I think it would be good to have a thread that discusses which parts from each year or generation is better to swap in, including N/T( I believe the 1G n/t's had better FPR's?) So you get my drift, tell us what parts we need to head to the junkyard for.

Here's a start

1G parts that are better:

6 bolt motor
BOV
Intake Manifold
Throttle Body
Connecting Rods
14b Turbo

2G parts that are better:

Exhaust Manifold
O2 Sensor Housing
MAF Sensor
TB Elbow

Don't forget the galant gvr4's either, there a some good partst o swap from also. if you can find 'em. this was a really good idea, make a list of all the best stock 4g63/t and drivetrain parts for those just starting out or are on a budget. and from what car to get those parts from.... :thumb:

1g is lighter with a more reliable motor and bigger rods and better flowing head, makes a nasty strip/street car.

The 2g is better suspension, stiffer chassis, adds camber the harder you turn unlike the 1g. 2g is for autocross, track and street.

neither car is solely for those purposes and can do either quite well, but for a designated strip car, get a 1g, and for track and autocross get a 2g. Both make a meen street car.

Actually, both are are better. Why? Because you can drop the 1g motor and tranny into a 2g that has the better suspension, uni-body, etc...

The 2G tranny is better than the 1G tranny, but not by much.

I disagree. The 2G tranny isn't Honda good but is far superior to the 1G tranny. It not only shifts smoother, it lasts longer.

The 2nd gen throtle body elbow is better then the first gen's and also the pistons are better then the first gen

Throttle body elbow only better if it's ported to match 1g throttle body.

So moving thru the system we have:
Engine
(6 bolt non withstanding)
2G MAF
1G Turbo
1G BOV
2G Throttle body elbow
1G Throttle Body
1G Intake Manifold
1G Head
2G Pistons
1G Rods
2G Exhaust Manifold
2G O2 housing
3G Lifters
1G or 3KGT Oil Filter

Misc:
2G Brakes
4 Bolt rear end

Of course aside from the stock parts if your tearing down engine to add the above list don't forget ARP bolts and a Head Gasket (Mitsu Metal Multi Layer or better).

The post about the 1g head being better depends on who you talk too. Yes 1g head is bigger but 2g flows better, not sure if that makes any sense, ie the path of the flow in the 2g is better, which according to some is more important then size. Some say a properly ported 2g head will flow more/better but I guess stock to stock the 1g is better.

When talking about 3G lifters, we are talking about the 3rd revision of the lifters, correct? Were not talking about lifters for a 3rd Gen car (00+) As only people in the DSM world refer to the models by 1g, 2g etc.

One other thing on the 2g brakes, will these fit the 1G? If so the best are the 2G GSX as they have 2 piston calipers & larger rotors compared to the other models.

That's correct the 3G lifter has nothing to do with the ugly 3rd gen Eclipses, they are the 3rd generation of lifters.

I agree 2G is better looking at least the 97 bodystyle and up.

You guys are either very ill, blind, or both :)

1gs are sexy as hell; 2gs are too girly looking.

IMHO, of course.

i agree, the 1g is dead sexy, i would buy a 1g over a 2g anyday, even if it was a grand more. and one thing better about 1g than 2g is that the 1ga has the pop up headlights, nothing is better than pop upo headlights

ya 1g's= 4 the win and hey you 2 g guys quite stealing our motors...LOL

You must pay alot for that stuff that sheiiiiit that you're smoking. LOL. 97 and up 2Gs are the sexiest thing on the roads. Who needs a girlfriend if you have a 2G. LOL. I cant even walk past my car without getting EXCITED. :sneaky:

j/k.....4G63=sexy.

that's another point, girls dont pay attention to 1st gens, 2nd gens get all the attention, and how can you blame em? theyre one of the hottest looking cars out there

1g's are more old school looking, my favorite being the 92 GSX. 2g's have a more modern aerodynamic look thats says "Yes I am one sexy BBBBBIIIIITTTTCCCCHHHH" until some tool slaps a pepboys wing on the back.

ROFL In my opinion I think the 95-96 are the ugliest of all DSM's. The 1GA are just Badass. Even my girl friend thinks that 2G's look like a girls car. It's all a matter of opinion anyway but what the hell the 1Gs design and style are timeless. To me the 2G is just starting to look like last decades style. Now if you haven't got anything under the hood it doesn't matter what car you drive anyway. By the way the fastest stock block DSM's run 1G pistons by the way, and a 1G Head. Lower compression more boost. Less knock easier to tune.
P.S. Who ever said Hondas have great transmissions. If my DSM had only 95 horsepower it would probably last longer as well. :talon:
