well, i told myself id wait till next week to do it, but i got bored and decided to take off the bumper to see what i had to do, which turned into going to home depot and getting the brackets, which turned into mounting it, which turned into cutting the bumper and turned into putting everything on but the piping. it was alot easier than most people make the FMIC out to be. i started at 7 and at 10 me and my buddy were finished with the FMIC mock up, and decided to tackle piping tomorrow(gotta wait for my freinds dad to come down and weld some shit).

the fmic doesnt move at all and i can sit on it without it moving. those brackets work perfect, that things not going anywhere.

the bumper test fitted. my buddy is trying to pop out a bolt whos head broke off that he overtightened, so thats why that side of the IC is hanging lower. i didnt realize this till after the pic.

the peuney side mount. its amazing air moves through it at all.

i'd like to see the pipe routing pics when you get it finished. very nice so far! :thumb:

make sure to post pics when you guys fab up the pipes :thumb:

also, you should definately hack off the little black trim piece on the front bumper, it just doesn't look right with a shiney new FMIC in there

jeebus that sidemount looks brand new... rare to not see one with like 4893034908 bent fins.
Agreed on the removal of the black trim piece, looks much betta without it

i mocked up pipes today but i will be welding them tomorrow at a freinds shop. then ill bust out with the pics.

and the black bumper piece wont matter cause im going to get some of that diamond mesh crap and put that in front of the ic and paint that black, i guess thats what i get for staying in this california smog nazi hellhole. so itll look stock with just some ricer mesh crap. later down i might paint the IC with some black radiator paint when i powdercoat the pipes.

I may be wrong, but I think that is the back of the smic. I know when I took mine out to clean it, the back looked flawless. :thumb:

yeah its the back of it...atleast if it was a 1g it would be (judging by the way the pipe is) not sure if 2gs are the same or not

looks real nice

Yup, thats the back.

yup thats the back of the smic. the front has just a few bent fins.

alrighty finished this tonight. last night got the pipes mocked up and fitted with the bumper on. had to do a little trimming on the side air vents to clear the pipe, like 1/2 inch at most. and then realized that the stock fog lights were still able to be implemented, here i was hoping to not have to get rid of them, then i realized that they wouldnt clear the pipe, then got the pipe on and they slid right over.

went to my neighbors shop and he welded while i ground the rest off. he showed me some of the basics of welding which was pretty sweet.

heres more pics.

the finished result.

then the test drive. has a bit more of a growl at the low rpm, and a wee bit more torque down there. from a 3rd gear pull, i started at 2500 and hit full boost by 3500, and pulled hard to 7k.

How much to buy a piping set from you? Id buy a fmic but I have nobody to weld pipes, so im stuck with buying a greddy/pexi kit :(

How much did you have to trim off your bumper? I have a 97+ bumber sitting in my garage, but Im curious how much you had to cut to make it fit if any at all. Here is my current bumper.

i trimmed maybe a inch off the whole mouth piece, i couldve done less but i just made a line and started cutting. theres prolly 1/4 inch gap between the bumper and fmic.

and yes the black piece is staying. im too afraid to cut it and make a crooked line, cause that would totally mess up the whole front end being crooked and such.

i am contemplating taking the IC and piping and turning them into a kit, though it will have to wait till i can actually do the welding not my freinds dad. Jaredo, you can buy the pipe from MagnumForce.com and mock it up like i did, mark the pipes and take it to a muffler shop and have them weld it and do a bead, prolly be around 20-40 bucks.

i would also recommend using something better than the home depot rubber couplers found in the plumbing section. i am using a 2"-2.5" one to bridge the gap between the j-pipe and 2.5" ic pipe, and it will NOT hold 20psi. ive blown 4 of them, my current one is holding cause i have 2 hose clamps around the coupler to keep it from ballooning, but im still waiting for that ever prevalent POP at 20psi to ruin your day. i have silicon couplers on the way from Extremepsi.com.

bout how much did that whole setup run you? i have a really crappy fmic for now and just hate it and would love to replace it but dont have the cash layin around for an actual kit..
