It's about that time again, folks. NWDSM does its annual Hood River Run (HRR) before the start of the racing season each year, and this year it's coming on April 30th.

You are invited to come to the HRR if you drive one of the following:

- any DSM (T/E/L/GVR4)
- any Evo
- any other turbo car (usually these special guests are packing some serious power!)

A little primer for those of you who may not be familiar with the group - NWDSM (www.nwdsm.com - website never updated) is a fairly old group (800+ registered members) that's been around since the mid 90s and is based around a mailing list on Yahoo Groups. They're a bunch of experienced and helpful DSM lovers, and are fun people as long as you stick to the rules. If you come on their mailing list or attend their events and show a blatant disregard for the leaders and rules, some of them can get rather nasty.

Their car drives usually go at a reasonably fast speed, though reckless driving (people sticking out sunroofs and windows to take pictures, driving on the shoulder, weaving through traffic and otherwise acting like a ricer) is frowned upon. We normally drive with a lot of radios and (usually) do a good job of sticking together, even with a couple dozen cars in the group.

This is a chance to see some of the fastest DSMs in the northwest, and there are usually some non-DSM turbo cars with some serious firepower. Last year there was a Z32 with a turbo V8 swap that was rumored to be packing 1000whp, and a Civic with a 4G63 swap that was amazingly fast.

Even with all the hot machinery, don't worry about getting left out if you don't want to do triple digits on public roads. The leaders always do a good job of keeping things organized and out of trouble, and if some people feel a little frisky and take off ahead, the rest of the group catches up at the next checkpoint.

Here are the details from the senior member organizing the meet, Lucas English:

The date 04/30/2005
Meet up at the same place (Vancouver mall old name, Westfield mall new name JC penny parking lot at 9am and leave by 9:30am. Drive up the WA side of 14 cross over to Hood River and go to the CharBurger in Hood River. I will have a banquet room set up. We will then come down the Historic Hwy and make a few stops. Any DSM can come I also don't mind if other cars come they just need to be a turbo car.

Look forward to seeing many of you there and have a greate run.

Here are the meeting points and times from last year, subject to change:

North of Seattle: Meet at Bahama Breeze (Old Southcenter Mall
Theater) before 6:00AM with or without me. You should leave there no
later than 6:10AM to be able to make it to the next meeting point.

Tacoma/Puyallup area: Meet at the I-5/512 McDs around 6:45AM. You
can fuel up the car at the Chevron and fuel up yourself at the same
time. We will be leaving there promptly at 7:00AM.

Olympia area and farther south: You can either wait for us on a
freeway on-ramp, or you can meet us at Napavine. That's normally a
good place to stop and re-fuel for everyone. That will be a VERY
short stop.

It's a lot of fun, and I hope all you Washington, Oregon, and Idaho people can come!

what kind of radio's are we talking about? CB? Talkabout?

What kind of attention does the caravan get from the local fuzz?

It's nice to hear that you don't have to do "OMG" speeds to stay in the group. A ticket for reckless would really ruin my day. :p

It's horrible that they are booting ALL of the N/Ts from going this year. I've got my 98 Eclipse N/T and doing a 100+ isn't hard to do at all, so keeping up I doubt would be a problem. I'm going to be gone all summer and this is the last meet before I'm gone in air force basic training til October, so I really want to make it to this one. If anyone can try and pull some strings to at least let me go, or give me a name and e-mail of someone I can ask, it would be greatly appreciated. The guys I was with in Redmond know I'm not an ***hole, make an exception! :thumb:

haha, nevermind about that last post.... thanks a lot corner, i didnt read your post in the redmond meet until after that post... haha i'm ecstatic that i can go now! i'm there! :thumb:

Last year kinda sucked because I got stuck in the back behind lancer n/t's and they were so slow they made us and a few other DSM's get lost.... SO lame, I had to pass about 5 of them then do ridicoulous speeds to catch up.... BARELY did too... Hence why n/t lancers were not invited this year. LOL

"Not to mention that stylish stealth subwoofer setup, with the loose carpet on top ;) "

Two years later I STILL have the loose carpet on the top. Let's see since that day I've had the tranny off 5 times, snapped a 7 bolt rod, built a 2.4, gone through three turbos, two FMICs, changed cams twice, gone through 660s, 720s, and now 1000s, but I NEVER finished the sub box cover
For those that don't know on the 03 HRR run I had gotten done building my car up from a bare shell on friday morning at 5am. That was the first test of the car ever. My logger was dead and it was totally untuned, luckily Lucas had his and had the balls to ride shotgun with no SEAT or seatbelt.

I'll finish the new setup before the run for sure. I'm still pissed that I missed last year.

I know I'm new to the forum but I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you guys at the HRR this year.

I'll actually be all moved in or on the way down to arizona...

dammit why that week! LOL

just got word today that the car's getting worked on!! :D with all luck she'll be back in business by mid next month in time for me to get her going better before the run!!

I'll be there, although I don't know if my car can handle that long of a drive... and some of the guys from my team, Midnight MotorSports (midnight-motorsports.com), will be there too.

We're just using your standard 2-way multichannel radios, such as these:

I've been on three NWDSM full-day runs, and only one ticket was given through all three (that I know of). It was handed out on southbound I-5 (somewhere around Centralia, I think) to one guy in the middle of the pack the officer seemed to have picked at random. Other than that, a combination of good communication, radar detectors, and watchful eyes has kept people out of trouble.

When we went on the Mount St Helens run in 2003, we had a blazing fast trip up miles of windy, perfect asphalt. After taking a break at the top, we had a park officer in his SUV carefully watching our pack of parked high performance cars. We all made our way out of the parking lot at 5mph and adhered strictly to the speed limit until word from the back of the pack came that the officer was not following.

That was Danny Gall. Todd Barry got a ticket back at the leavenworth meet we had in 02 also. It doesn't happen that often.

Yeah and then Poppoff and I lost the whole group by about 4 minutes :p That was soooo much fun, we were averaging between 110-130 the whole way down the straighter section.

i know i'll try to make it for sure...i'm getting a newer long block put in cause my bottom end went completely to hell...a bolt disenergrate into the oil and messed up a lot of stuff...so the dealership is getting me a newer 4g63t engine!! so i'll definately be there!!

Todd didn't get a ticket, we got pulled over none the less and the officer was a dick about the whole group, and even more so since he made me miss my great filming spot since everyone passed us! Otherwise damn that was a fun meet.

Oh yeah on MSHR '02 in the upper lot I remember Lucas tossing some serious stutterbox at the SUV cop. And at MSHR '03, god damn Nick we were 4th behind You, Poppoff, then Mark and DagoWop was the only guy we could remotely see. And then everyone stopped because Lucas blew up 5th gear with too many 5th gear roll ons that topped 130...

good ole NWDSM runs...

If you don't like moving at insane speeds, Id suggest sticking twords the front of the group, and make sure not to get seperated.

on MSHR 02 a group of us got seperated....think at least 120 in the straights, and 70+ in the 35mph twisties. That was the day I realized I needed new suspension, as well as the day I toasted my tires (still has like 10k worth of "normal" driving tread), and warped the living hell outta my rotors. it was great.

LOL...last year I noticed it was hard to find new rotors a couple weeks after a NWDSM run? Lovviin it :thumb:

So...Should we make a list of who's goin? Just to see how many people are planning on showing?

1. rowlex (Scott) - Blue 95 Tsi AWD - EvoIII 16g..

What Dawg is referring to is DSMTuners has a reputation for breeding idiots and ignorance. If you look in the mirror and see someone who doesn't want to follow the directions of those in charge and is going to be a danger to others, please don't come to this event! You will be asked to leave, and will never be invited back.

There are several people on here who would be a boon to the event, however, and they wouldn't hear about it if posted on another forum.

i heard the local evo group will be traveling with...i have a friend who's going with them and another buddy...so this should be a rather interesting drive...hope weather permits...gives me time to break in the new engine.....question though, is that all interstate, backroads, or a combo of both?
