this is a hot topic for any spyder owner.. and something ive been in awe over since ive seen 2 of them now. not only John (on here as stockspyder) but also Ari at (www.turbospyder.com) has completed this as well. i sent a message to ari and he let me know the following:

"My net cost was $3500 but I sold all my FWD parts and did quite well doing so. The weight difference is about 100 lbs (spyder #2 was weighed vs. a GSX and it came up 85 lbs difference).

You have to change the exhaust as well. Downpipe, cat (different angle of the flanges), and catback (goes to the side of the driveshaft instead of the center where the stock GST or aftermarket GST exhaust goes).

I think RRE is charging $2000 for labor/fabrication work and your parts needed are:

AWD Transmission
AWD Flywheel
AWD Front Driver and Passenger Axles
Transfer Case
Driveshaft
Complete AWD Rear End (Rear Diff, crossmember, suspension, brakes) Rear AWD Sway Bar (or AWD aftermarket sway bar) AWD Gastank and Filler Neck Assembly Turbo back AWD Exhaust (Stock or aftermarket)

That's it. Good luck. It was definitely worth it to me but my cost was not that much compared to what it will end up costing you most likely ($5000 or more)."

im interested.. and if i can sell all my existing parts.. i dont see why it would be out of my reach. ill be pulling some strings for the next few months and see what i can do.. if it does happen it will probably be in a year or so. but most likely, it will happen :) awd launches with the top down. everything i could ever want in my car :)

hes probably just scared because of the price of that investment... i dont think its any more fragile than a normal GSX.. probably more stable because of the extra effort involved.. and its all GSX factory parts.. so .. i dont see the difference. plus RRE really knows what they are doing.. i would be their 3rd right? :) childs-play.

HEHE!!!! Do you plan on driving down to Cali to get it done? Also are you planning to get new parts for SATAN or are you going to your nearest junkyard? I wonder how fast their cars run the 1/4 mile....

no plans yet.. just want it bad enough to make it happen. ill probably search junkyards when it comes to it though. yeah i could send the car to cali and wait it out for a few weeks.. worth it for the results. it will be a while if i do it though. for the honda fanboys i could just take a GSX sticker and put it back there for similar results :)

funny you mention it larry.. it was your constant whining about lack of traction that made me want to do this :) LOL thanks for the encouragement

It is going to be my next project as soon as I get the car painted since i'm sitting primered while I finish up the bodywork. But i'll prob start gathering parts this fall and do everything myself except i'm having TurboTrix install the rearend since that is where all of the fab work is needed. Hoping to have it done by next spring but who knows since it's on the shelf at the moment. Oh and Larry your welcome to help if you'd like the hands-on experience :) for if you decide to do it to your car... we all know you have the money!

haha, I aint got thr $$ man, im mega broke lately.. just paying to fix **** that breaks.. seriously though when you do it, compile a list of everything that needs to be done for those of us chumps thinkin of doing it :)

Ok its been two years, just wondering if anybody ended up actually going ahead with the conversion.

Sorry for raising the dead. :thumb:

Advanced motor sports in lafayette la also did one, the only problems we had with it was the clutch breaking. Im not a hundred percent sure but the car is estamated to turn a 11 but needs bigger injectors. we thought we had one of the only ones...
