Well I don't post on here much, but I though I would show off some pics of a box I've been working on for my freinds 97 GSX. Got the idea from the now discontinued JL Audio Stealth box. Local dealer wanted around 500$ for the box loaded with 1 w3(before w3v2's came out). Its made from the drivers side rear pannel, bolts right in. About 100$ in materials, give or take. Lots of fiber glass, mdf bracing, spray on sound dampeing on both the back/bottom, and the inside to keep standing waves down. Rear strut tower bar should still fit. I can't wait to go to AZ at the end of the month to take the full installer school so I can actualy make a living at this crap.

I've found that corner loading that spot in my dsm's resulted in the most bass. I tried to convice the kid to acualy get a smaller lighter sub, as the L7 will probably be too much bass. No need for a second sub on the other sid unless you're going into competition. In fact I'm sure that single L7 will go loud enough to cause hearing damage. Now I need to get on to making the custom floor, a custom rear cargo shelf or what ever its called, and the turn the back pannel into an amp rack.
:D

It's nice work and I know how much a pain fiberglass is to work with but it just doesnt flow with the interior like the JL Audio box does. If you would have made the edges more round and look like it flowed more with the interior instead of it look like an actual box. Either way its nice and I like it good job :thumb:

I actually have a setup like this, designed for a my 8"W7. Well, half a box at least. Problem was I sold the car before I ever got around to finishing that one. The L7 needed much more space than I could get from doing it like that, so I had to used the whole area. The edges are rounded off slightly, and the top part is moulded into the panel the only way I could get it to fit (the bulge for the wiper motor sticks down more than the rest of the panel on the hatch, and requires it to be that low for clearance to shut the hatch) Plus I only charged my friend 100$ for the box. Even so, we're working on dying his interior black, and using black vinyl on the custom floor/ back panel so it'll match a lot better once we get that all done.

That looks real good I like it, but that is the L5 which is what I used to have. I have the L7 now which is silver and blue. Its only a 10' pushing a 1,000 watt amp and that bad boy sounds like two 12's backed there. ;)

actually i do belive that's an older model L7, the blue ones are new to 04 or 05, but pretty sure that's an L7 and not an L5...

Great work on the enclosure, hope to build myself one someday... :thumb: :thumb:

Sorry, the part that says L7 on the cone, and the sticker on the magnet in the back that also says "L7" threw me off.

Just finished up the rest of the install. Dyed the rest of the peices in the trunk black to match, installed the amp to the floor, covered the floor in vinyl, ect. amp is a memphis unit making about 500wrms at 2 ohms. All in all turned out pretty good.

Sorry, but I hae to ask this. do you still have your spare tire in that? I had a box built nto the wheel well in my laser instead of my spare, but after getting 2 flats I decided to re-do the box location so that I can once again carry my spare. But hey with a box made out of 1 inch MDF, 2 amps, Capacitor, and a 10" Type R, saving weight really isnt all that imp0ortant...

That looks great. Many Kudos to you.

Yep, still has the factory spare. Its underneath the pannel the amp is mounted to (which is the stock panell trimed to fit with the box in there, and wrapped in vinyl. Anyone have any ideas on how to better hide the wires? I was thinking have them run through a hole in the board they're mounted to, then clean up the edges of the hole with the type of cup they used for the holes in desks to run the wires for computers through?
