Has anyone done this? I think the rear is the ugliest part of the car. I hate the stupid lights, the red bar running all the way across is so 80's Buick or something. Has anyone painted the centerpeice? Here is a photoshop I did, I think this would look pretty cool

Thanks for the car Kevins90GSX :thumb:

Mine looks exactly like the car in the first post. I filled the center piece in and made it smooth and my car is the same white. I don't have any current pictures of it, sorry. But it does look exactly like the one in the first picture.

What did you do to the tail lights to get that strip of paint off? Did you take it off? I was thinking just painting it red, but it would never look right...

2 questions

1. What did you use to fill in the center logo?
2. What kind of paint can you use to get a good bond to the plastic?

I have a black laser and would like to fill in the rear center peice and paint it black.

Has anybody seen those skyline tail light inserts? Thier neat as well......

Sand the plastic to rough it up. If you're referring to the letters on the centerpiece, the 1ga eclipse had "mitsubishi" lettered behind the plastic, not on top. And any good exterior paint with sanding and primer will stick very well.

how do you get those strips of paint off that run along the lights?

As i said. LASER. Which is a plymouth logo embedded into the center peice. Any exterior paint? So latex paint is ok?
-Little more specific please?

Talons didnt have that strip .. only the eclipse's .. the tails in the white 1g at the top has talon tails (89-91) .. most people prefer those cause you can peel off the eagle logo in the back and all of the tails look uniform the whole way around the rear end.

Hope that helps ..

PS. i painted mine black and it made a huge difference. My car is red and the strip was pink from fading ..

Picture: (disregard my exhaust .. it has since then recovered from taco neck syndrome)

Example of the (89-91) Talon tails which i believe are what was used in the white 1g at the top .. that is unless the strip was just photoshoped out of the top pic :D

Picture taken from cardomain: (not my car, nice plate btw)

exterior AUTOMOTIVE PAINT, jeez you people are thickheaded sometimes. the logo will peel off if its on the surface, and if not, sand the bi*** down.

i agree with SpyderFX.... do it right... get it base/clear at a shop for $50-75 or so. then you dont' have to worry about it fading or peeling cuz of a $1.99 spray can job. auto paint is what your looking for! but if you want a low cost home job, scuff it and clean it GOOD, then get a good spray can of ext. auto paint, and have at it. just hope it matches.

most of those logos peel off, however some are molding INTO the back, but i thinks it very rare. not sure if i've even seen one molded up there.

I apologize, I left the white strip on the actual lights. I was just paying attention to the center section. I painted mine when I painted the entire front clip of my car, so primer, base, and clear. Mine didn't have any imbedded logos, so I can't really help you there. Good luck.

ok, a laser has a embedded plymouth logo in the center of the plastic. Sand that down? that cant be right. I was being a smarty pants btw when i said latex paint..........
