For cooling reasons, should I remove the underhood insulation? Affects on paint, anyone who has done this? Was searching and didn't see anything on this. Already removed the rubber seal at back of hood, and direct wired a/c fan. Also might do vents by greyforest, in tech articles.
Thanks

took mine off a long time ago. no problems, much cleaner

How in the world will that help the cooling of your car? Keep it on if you like your paint (especially if your exh manifold head shield is off). Spend the time elsewhere. Go on a diet and lose a few pounds, something! :D

It won't help cool your engine bay any better than with it in. As far as ill effects, it can destroy your paint if you're running without the manifold heat shields, it won't happen over night...but it will slowly happen.

And I'd better not hear a whisper of the "Fire Blanket" myth about the damned thing.
But my mitsu dealer said it was a fire blanket, so that if the engine caught fire it would fall down onto the block and snuff the flames

Defiant, what would you do without me to liven things up?

cough, snicker.

Well there is only one way to find out. I think Defiant said he'd donate his car to the cause.

But seriously, do you think that thing will put out an oil or gas fire?...umm, no. It may be designed to fall when theres a fire, but by the time the fire released the "blanket" the fire would be out of control.

Consider that the Fire blanket myth started when car sales ppl were uninformed and were selling cars by the seat of there pants ( still going on today) and not taking the time to learn there product.

I have sold cars for almiost 10 years now and have taked to reps from over 12 differant lines and not one of there cars has a blanket with asbestos quality that would snuff a fire.

The underhood heat sheild is to try and keep the heat off of the hood and to also dampen underhood noise trying to lead to a quieter sounding car just like the so called fire wall, this wall on some cars also has a fire blanket story but is the same as the hood heat sheild.

If we hear a sales person use one of those misleading descriptions we will pull them off the floor and make them relearn there product.

Defiant doesn't have to - I can speak from experience on this subject, and I can sum it all up in one word - HORSESHIT. :thumb:

I replaced a set of injector on one of my DSM's once, and in my rush I didn't oil the injector O-rings prior to installation. Of course, one of them tore and spilled fuel all over the intake mani while the engine was hot - FIRE. That car now has a nice ugly fire mark on the hood of the car.
