K&n Fipk ?

I noticed alot of people recommend the K&N FIPK for the 2g turbo eclipse(forced induction performance kit). The cheapest i could find it for is $105 and all the kit looks like is a k&n filter and plastic adaptor plate to fit it to stock intake. Am i wrong or is a k&n filter usually $40 . It seems like a huge ripoff but maybe i'm missing something. Anyways, i found a k&n filter and adaptor on ebay that isn't the FIPK but it seems near identical except the price is less than half of the FIPK ebay k&n Is there any real difference?
 
No difference. Pretty much the same deal. I have the actual FIPK from K&N. I chose it for 2 reasons. 1) I got it for a lot less than msrp and 2) it has a CARB Sticker...which for me in california is a big deal for the air nazis.
 
The filter in your action chelfy is half the size of the fipk kit from K&N. If you notice on that kit the bolts go on the outside of the filter, and the big adapter places the bolts underneath the filter. The K&N one is better, look on Fp's sight under the intake section, they have the 12 inch k&N for 80 bucks or sum thin like that.


2gGSX, all filters are not rated equal, the pos on ebay will slowly destroy your motor due to poor filtration. Spend the extra 40 bucks on your filter!!
 
That cheaper ebay adapter would probably go good for us 1g to 2g guys, the 2g fpik kit doesn't allow much room for the upper intercooler pipe it basically has the filter smashed against the fenderwell on a 1g, I bet with the ebay adapter and that filter it would help alot, thanks for posting the link.

Keep your filter in good condition, well oiled, etc. and you will not wreck your engine. There is not a huge difference btw k&n and ebay....maybe a 5 hp difference on a 400hp car.
 
Even a K&N will destroy your motor if something goes wrong with it you know. The filter is probably the last of my worries.

I am not talking about hp here. I am talking about the actual filtration of dust molecules that over time are hazardous to the life of a motor.

What is a filter?

What good is it if it doesn't filter any thing out of the air.


It has been researched that most commonly engines suffer from dust molecules in the range of 10 to 20 microns in size, to give you an idea of how big a micron is, the tip of a piece of hair measures roughly 100 microns in size.

Unless the filter company is wilingl to release some information with laboratory backed results defining what kind of filtration you can anticipate, do not trust them their products on your car.

I would be happy to wrap up some colored gawz pad in steal mesh and sell it to you if you wanted, and probly save you some money too while I'm at it, but would you beleive me if I told you it was a quality product? I certainly hope not.
