I got my JDM 6 bolt today and have started taking it down. I'm gonna fit it with Wiseco 9:1 pistons and Pauter rods. Some crane or comp cams and a new 2600 ACT clutch, Magnus SMIM (gotta sell mine and get one for a 1G) and re-use all my existing turbo setup, plus all the normal goodies, ARP multi layer head gasket, new Clevite 77 bearings etc etc... Come spring it will swapped in and the old 7bolt taken out. The 7 bolt still runs strong and pulls like a MOFO at 22psi but it's time for some pistons and rods so I can spray nitrous on 26psi of boost. Should be fun.

I'm gonna update this thread as I go just for the hell of it. It will be updated with pics of the tear down, parts, build and swap just to document my success and frustration. This whole process will also be featured in HCI magazine as it goes.

So I find this sticker on my timing belt cover. Could the motor possibly have 53,988km on it (about 35k miles) or is this some BS? Can anybody read Japanese and can tell me what that says?

So I start to rip stuff appart and have a look at how it looked. This motor was seriously clean everywhere. Even the oil pan was completly clean inside.

I didn't clean any of this before these pictures were taken, honestly thats how the motor looks when it came appart. Look at the oil pickup, there is nothing on it at all. Somebody obviously did lots of oil changes and took care of the motor. Almost a shame I took it all appart to build it with aftermarket stuff. This motor would have been an amazing stock 6 bolt swap if I was going to go that route.

Pistons and rods are on the way, should have some pics of them shortly, then gonna order some gaskets and studs etc.. Then it's off to the engine builder which I'll be taking pictures of as well.

Here is my garage where I'm doing everything. The only part I'm not doing is the acctual motor build the rest will all be performed here in my garage. Thats my father-in-laws Harley on the right there. Gotta keep well clear of that.

Anyway that's all for now, more updates as soon as there is more to talk about. So far everything has been going really well with no problems at all.

wow ...that motor is awesome looking. Since that motor was in such good shape i guess ill ask...where did you get it from? good luck with the project. Nice to see a dsmer with another motor not cause they have to but cause they want 2 =)

top_end95: One of my best friends started there and he has always worked for varioius Magazines. Sean Greene, he worked for Performanec Auto & Sound, then went to Modified as the Editor for a year now at HCI as a technical editor. He's helping me out by using my car as a tech piece for the magazine.

SDSGSX: It just came from one of our local JDM motor suppliers here in Toronto area, Tiger Auto Parts. I didn't pick it, it just showed up. The first one I got from another place had a busted timing belt and balance shaft belt and the bottom end spins really freely. Basically the motor spun and bent all the valves. All the teeth were worn right off the belt around the crank so you know the motor spun over tones of times before whoever it was junked the car. Thankfully I got my money back from that and ordered from a different place and this is what showed up. Lucky for me I guess.

blitz43: Sure I can swap my motor? Its exactly the same thing going in as coming out (well it's a 6 bolt and needs a few small mods to work but thats it) so the swap overall is pretty easy. Just labor and time mainly, besides when you have the factory service manual you can do anything.

Jim that motor must of had low miles on it WOW that looks clean. Anyway me and you will be posting picks of our build. I should have it back from mitch at engine tecs in a couple of weeks. Doing work like this is not cheep I will be spending 3,500 on my motor all said and done.

Why not Stroke it?

Jim, what machine shops are you looking to use? I will be assembling my motor before the end of the month, and I can give you some info on the ones that I've been to as far as attitude, customer service and most importantly craftsmanship.
I've got clevites as well, but I'll be running ross and eagles on a mitsu 4 layer head gasket. arp's all around.
I'm curious as to see the specs on your crank...very curious...

Cesar: I'm using Gord Bush. I know most of the machine shops in the area and most of the guys who build nice motors. I would have Marco do it (still might) however he's so busy and I'm on a bit of a timeline to have certian parts of the build done at certian times.

44pirate: I don't wanna stroke it. 2.4L makes lots of torque and loves to blow up trannies. I'll stick with 2.0L and boost with nitrous.

How much nitrous are you going to spray?

Chuck_3: This new feature will start in next years probablly. It will take me some time to get everything organized for the motor so I expect that to maybe run feb or march, and the 1g in a 2g to go in after that.

MMORTALSPYDER: Probablly a 50hp shot single nossle. I know that doesn't sound like much but a 50hp shot makes 100whp on a turbo car. So 26psi of boost with 9:1 should make some solid numbers plus another 100whp. I should see a pretty descent increase with the nitrous. I'm hoping for a solid 500+whp from the car.

Really my goals is just to be able to run a mid low 11 second pass with less boost and a little nitrous. It's easier to run nitrous at the track as the cooling effect gives really pretty consistant results regardless of how hot it is outside. I find I'm always running different times depending on the heat at the track, so I'd like to be able to spray and not worry about how hot it is outside. Besides spraying nitrous on a turbo car is crazy..

Looks very Nice Jim We have very similar set ups, except I have my magnus mani sitting in the closet since its for a 1g. I would swap with you but i will be doing the swap soon as well. Feels wierd pulling out a perfectly good motor (so far) but i guess it needs to be done. I will probably opt for a little more displacement and just switch to a bigger turbo instead of the hose, but i have alos been thinking that 400whp on pump will be readily available on pump with a 50 trim, it would be kinda crazy to spray a 50-75 shot on top of that to kick it well over 500 on pump gas. Good luck with the build If my motor comes in looking that good I doubt i will build it up right away. Maybe just find a junk yard block to have built.

Man, that all looks verrrrrrrrry clean. Best of luck to ya...I just finished putting a built 6 bolt in my 1g and although my old motor ran fine with 22psi, yes...nitrous and 30psi is required

Just wondering...any specific reason you started with a new motor and not just any 4g63 block/head?

BTW, that sticker on your cam gear cover is for when the timing belt was changed...I think. 35k seems a bit low to me though

Glad to see someone else crazy enough to dump thousands into their car to shave some time in the 1/4 mile

The whole setup looks to be ungodly badass. Good luck with it and be sure to post results.
