So my friend goes on how hes getting a good deal on a 98 Gs-t for $6900 with 55k miles. He doesn't know anything about dsm's. He took it home today and called me over. We popped the hood and bang. A 420a with a Hahn Stg2 turbo. Its got the GS-T badge too! WTF!

We took it apart to see how everything was done, looks good and runs mighty well

Haha the guy must have turbo'ed the GS and threw on a GST badge - but is that even legal to sell the car as a GST when its just a GS? I'd be kinda pissed if I paid for a GST but got a turbo GS. Oh well, if it runs good and all, then that's pretty cool! Do you know if there was any engine work done? Well good luck with it! Your friend i mean :p

regardless of how much he knows about DSMs, he should have checked the VIN with mitsubishi to be sure what exactly the thing was.

I would take it back and get a true GST. But I guess if he is happy oh well then.

That brown stuff is actually light mud stains and dust. Don't ask me how it got there but the engine bay is quite dirty. So is the front end of the car. The bottom is cracked but hes planning on replacing the front end with a new oem 97-99 bumper. :thumb: Interior is very clean though, mainly the front bumper is damaged from speedbumps and what not, nothing big. Its boosting quite good at 16 psi, I'm guessing the engine has been worked on. The car seems zippy

As for it being illegal, it probably is. The VIN shows it as an RS on Carfax, plus its got the rear drums. We don't know yet if hes going to keep it or what not but hes already bought a new bumper for it and stuff but I guess we'll see. :D

Ick, I would return that car in a heartbeat and get my money back. Then sue the prick for turboing his N/T car and selling it as a turbo DSM. :thumbdown

uhm... im sure it says GS on the title .... not GS/T
Or, an RS, like in Post #6. The one up there with the big, venomy fangs.

It won't be running "mighty well" for very long at 16psi.

I don't believe that mileage number, either.

Eject! Eject! Eject!

i dont know much about US cars, but if that car has only done 55k miles, then its been thrasheed for every 1 of them LOL, it has to be wound back for sure..

if you can return it, do it! i really doubt it will run much longer without the pistons ending up in your lap..

Might wind up just like that video of the GSX vs. the M3 --

KABOOM!!!!

"Was that your CUAHR?! Is that your UEHNGINE?!"

"My parents are gonna be pissed!!"

Long-ass finger nail not included...

Hahaha I would blame your friend and the guy that sold it to him. First off he should have asked someone to help him purchase the car or take a look at it with him. Second, your friend should have looked at the title to see what the title stated. Third, the seller seemed like a shady character to begin with and that low mileage?!?!? Seems to me he had the engine rebuilt/swapped and turned back the odometer I would tell your friend to take the car back unless he wants an even worse money pit. Throwing on a turbo kit on a N/T and not having the experience of maintinence is *shame shame*. There is no way that would be a reliable daily driver anyways without being a money pit.

I agree or at least ran a carfax report.

Ya exactly your friend is A. a moron for not checking what's written on the title and B. an idiot for not even doing carfax

I'm sure that when he does carfax the car will end up with 155k instead of the 55k and probably with an accident or two on it...might wanna get this figured out pretty quick...either legally or otherwise with the guy that sold it to him :thumb:

I'd like to know whether your friend is planning on keeping it or returning it thanks.

I don't see the HUGE problem here. Instead of getting a stock GS-T w/a t-25 you got a Hahn Stage 2 turbo kit w/FMIC, sounds nice to me. Just rebuild the engine internals, check all fluids, and do repairs to your belts and what not. Your friend should be fine.

The problem is, if he ever wants to mod, he's going to hit a brick wall. 4g63 is a much more capable engine, and much more stout. I would never trust a neon motor to make good power and still be reliable.

That sucks but just because it has low mileage doesn't mean it's not true, I just sold my 97' GST with 58,000 on it and that was all my mileage

I'm about to be brutally honest.

Your friend should bring the car back to the guy for the following reasons.
[1] Your friend bought a GS/RS NOT what he was told is a GS-t

[2] That "dust spot" under the hood looks like dried oil from something blowing off or blowing the #### up. THIS is not a good thing to see

[3] For a 98 the car was taken care of like ass. That shows clearly, my 98 isn't NOWHERE near that bad and I guarntee my car goes through hell on a weekly basis.

[4] Why didn't he check the carfax report?

[5] IF someone knows nothing about a car they are going to buy they should ALWAYS bring someone with them that knows something about the car if it's possible.

Your friend got burned.
BAD Please go with him to bring the car back and actually GET something he paid for.... A gst... maybe a gsx... maybe something that looks like it's in better condition?
