so toay i am going to be doing my springs and ill be usin ght rear homemade camber kit as fond on vfaq.com many people recomended it, and i was wondering if you are using it, how is it holding up? how safe is it compared to a "true" camber kit and are the specs of the bolts the correct ones to use for it? 8.8 hardness, size M10X1.25, 30mm long. im going to be on H&r sport springs, so is how many washers? (1.4 drop in the rear) thanks.

If I remember right I used 6 thicker (Im probably dropped around 2"(I can fit 2 fingers between wheel and fender)))washers in the rear (on each bolt), mine is holding up just fine. I got big washers though to help hold the pressure, there about half-dollar size washers.

i bought/use the ingall's rear camber kit. what a joke. came with 8 bolts, and a bunch of thick ass washers.

good way of spending 10x more than i needed to. but ya, i used 2 washers each bolt so i'd say that's a good .8" or so in thickness

I've been wondering the same thing. I need to fix my camber, but I also don't want to risk my life with a mod that's not going to hold up under the stress of L.A. streets.

i did mine w/ some M10X1.25, 45mm long grade 10 bolts. I actually took out too much camber in the rear before I was getting my second alignment. I have about -.6 degrees of camber in the rear which is less then stock. I was shooting for about 1 degree so my toe settings in the rear would be a little better (.1 and .2 degrees currently)

Its pipe and washers so together it equals the equalivent of like 8 washers in the back at least. It holding up fine so far.

Just curious who has done it and how it turned out for you any bad things happen and how long have you had it on your car miles and what drop is on your car. I was thinking about doing it except I think the bracket you put the washers under might bend in the middle because there is no support there, Just wanted you opionis and it worked or did not work storys.

Thanks AJ :)

Search and you will find dozens of threads advocating DIY rear camber correction. The technique has withstood the test of time, several years anyway. Hundreds, possibly thousands of DSMers have done it and I have never heard of a structural failure caused by the modification. My mechanic, a race car driver and builder, chided me, not for adding spacers, but using a couple of dissimilar washers.

Relax. Add spacers with confidence (the right spacers and the right bolts).

I went to a fastners store called LA FASTNERS and they had ever bolt washer spacer etc I could need. Worked great I had to add 4 1/8 inch washers and one 1/16 washer to get my camber right in the middle of where it should be. That with a prokit. Just go the yellow pages online and type in fastners and a bunch of stores will pop up that sell hardened bolts and washers.

I did the homemade rear camber kit and it is awesome. I have had it now for about 6 months and I have never had a problem with it. I couldn't find the right stuff at Home Depot so I had to go to a little hardware store to find them.

its not fair how easy it is on a 2g, by just putting washers in compared to 1g

Yeah well at least you can log knock its not fair us 2gs cant oh and you get a 6-bolt.

Damn Home Depot.

I went there and found three of the M10 x 1.25 30mm bolts. I need 8 so it wont do me any good.

I guess I'll wait for more next week when they get more.

Just get the m10 x 35 or 40mm I got the 40mm worked fine.

You can get them from McMaster-Carr. Pack of 25 is about $9.00. I usually get stuff the next day.

I tried Homed Depot, found 3. Went to Lowe's only had size 1.5. Just figured I would try it out, I went to True Value and sure enough, they had plenty. Went home, started to unbolt things and realized the bolts I was taking out are longer than the new bolts, so kept the longer bolts in. The washers were the only problem. I got them 1 1/2" wide, but when I tightened them down, the bolts bent like crazy, so make sure you get some sturdy washers.
Has anyone else had the stock bolts longer than the 1.25" of this upgrade? Also, what type of washers did you all buy? Drove the car around the block so far, felt a lot better. I saw most people say they don't need the kit for a pro kit, but mine did for some reason.

The only bolt that i can find that is M10x1.25 30mm long says it's 8.8 at the top.
Is 8.8 strong enough??? or do i need something stronger??
the last thing i want is the rear upper control arm falling off.

Thx alot

You will only find the standard 8.8 grade at Home Depot and you will likely have to pay close to $15 for eight of them. Expect to pay a little more if you can find the higher grade elsewhere.

Standard grade HD bolts suck. These are thoroughbreds we're running here.

I'm proud to say I have the uber-performance Lowes bolts. Can't get em anymore, which is why MY 2G must be worth a pile of loot now. :sneaky:

I just got my bolts from Autozone. Some are 8.8 other are 10.

a local place in my area has the 10,9 hardness ones, they are about 30$ for 8 of them. to anyone that wants to send me the money + shipping costs i will get some and send them to you. PM me.
