Does the Power/Economy switch really do anything?

I have an auto 93 eclipse gs (2.0ltr engine nt) and it has the pwr/eco switch. I read that it has something to do with the timing that the gears switch but really serves no purpose. I leave it on power all the time. What the hell is the point of this thing? I've never seen a car with this feature!

May cars have this feature and its soley to keep your car out of over drive and ensure it starts in first gear from a stop. It doesnt make the car faster, just keeps it in the proper gears to get max power...

So should i leave it on power and switch it in economy for highway driving like it says? Is it safe to switch it frequently? Can i just leave it on power?

Switch it to economy while just crusing, and on the Hwy. You can run it on Power all other times though. It's really up to you and how you drive.

No it won't hurt anything... You won't really notice a big difference between the two until you get mods on the car though. The only problem you might encounter is the switch breaking, and if that happens you can get one in a yard for about $5, or from the dealer for about $10-20... Enjoy! :thumb:
