Chilliwack,
so the time has come that my stock bov will not hold enough boost anymore. And I do not want to replace it.

I see 2 options.

1.) crush it.

2.) add the port like the guy at the Dodge Garage does. http://www.thedodgegarage.com/turbo_bov_mod.html

what are your thoughts on this??

As we don't/can't vent our bov, maybe we don't need the fast release and could just drill the hole and plug the one inside??

any ideas/experiences??

A local guy around here did the mod from the dodge garage and it works wonders. He is able to run A LOT higher boost on the stock BOV without any problems at all, and it seems to respond quicker/easier/better than stock.

cool, thanx.

What would happen if you (I) just closed off the small hole with a screw and did not drill out a new one?? It appears that the new one is just if you want to make if fast release again.

hehe, I don't really care about the sound so much, but I do care if it is causing compressor surge or something nasty.

good use of discriptive language :)

you will care about this sound... trust me.. its quite irritating...

im gonna try the drilling mod tommorrow.. im not gonna tap it and crap since you leave the hole open anyway.. makes sense? im just gonna drill the hole and see how that works..

you have to put a screw in the small hole underneath tho, or it will just act like the stock one, leaky wize.

Or do you mean just not tap the drilled hole for the new port that is visible??

Lemme know how it works out.

Well i did the mod, i plugged the bottom hole but insted remade the gasket to cover it up, drilling the hole was a snap, just used a tiny bit to drill a pilot hole then switched to a bit about the size of the stock hole..

the sound is... something to get used to.. now isted of "frooshhh!" its more of just a loud pop followed by some fluttering at partial throttle.. i saw a vid of a car that had a greddy type r that made the same sound.. will try to find it.. sound is pretty much the same..

I doubt it, not all real BOVs make the ricer whistle sound, they just pop wide open and then shut, fluttering is normal... you can hear compressor surge bigtime if its bad enough to hurt anything, i dont hear any. compressor surce might occur if the bov DIDNT flutter..

of course thats MY car imtalking about not the supra, and i doubt i will be seeing comp surge with a small 16g.. and a stock BOV.. but i dunno bout the supra..

never heard of that done to a BOV, but maybe I just havent heard of it.

Did you do a search?? Maybe its done.

I'd say he was just trying to hype his product to ya. :(

don't take offense to this.. but you don't know what you're talking about, listen to Defiant,he is a wiseman for a reason. you can get compressor surge with ANY turbo.

I posted the Dodge Garage page awhile ago, and since many people have been doing this. A better way shown to me by Wes hess was to drill the hole along the little flat edge of the valve wiht the writing on it.(I beleve it has a little diamond star engraved on the side.) I have seen several cars now, with this done. Of all the CBVs BOVS on the market, this is the best I have seen, except for the Tial.

GSXforlife, would you be able to expand on this?? Pictures etc??

This sounds like the way I want to go, but I'd hate to do the regular mod and then find out that I could have done it a better way.

thanx

I dont have a pic of the mod done, but Look at this. That flat portion that the BLACK LINE runs through. Drill a hole, the same diameter as the one on the botttom, in that portion. Make the hole a little higher than the center of the flat section.

I just plugged the hole in the base of the flange, and drilled a hole in the passage. No new nipple.

Seems fine so far.

Holds boost better, sounds cool and so far no compressor surge.

Now to test how high I can boost and still get low knock :)
