Nova,
This one looks quite real, produced by kkk, not sure if some sort of power inverter would be necessary or what, seems like it'd be a huge drain....

Nobody thinks it could be useful as an anti-lag device (or boost lag band aid would be more like it) for those running things like 60 trims?

I wouldn't think so, I mean, at least its not all plastic and ghetto like other electric TC/SC's ive seen but i just dont see an electric motor being capable of spinning a turbine at 10's of thousands of RPM's to make any significant source of boost. just my .02

KKK have been making real turbo's for years. I am pretty sure saab used them at one point. That has been hacked up and a motor attached. An electric turbo will never work. The math has been done and unless you have a boat load of current on tap it is a waste... amongst other things.

Just by looking at that you can see that the motor is a standard off the shelf DC type. I will give it the benefit of the doubt and say it can spin 10K RPM. A turbo is up around 100K RPM. I do not see any type of gear reduction to get even close to the required RPM that the compressor impeller needs.

I agree it's not half bad, but as Omega stated there is no possible way it will ever work as if a real turbo were in the car.....

Anyone that's interested in electric superchargers should check out the June issue of Turbo magazine.

Yeah the one from this issue really makes power. If you look at the power plant on both you can see that the Supercharger in this issue has 3 electric motors where as this one has only one. I must say that I have been trying to cheat for a long time and this is one of the best electric turbos I have seen. I wanna see some numbers though. :dsm:

Lets put it on a Yugo and see what happens...Or even a Honda :D

Honestly that just looks like a turbo with an electric motor in place of the centersection. Someone was probably just rebuilding there turbo and was like "hey jerry go fetch me that 12v motor out of the shed it looks like it's the same size!" serriously that motor only has 12-14 ga wire and i think the maximum watage that it can carry probably woulden't even convert to 3-4 horspower. It's probably just for laughs

KKK isnt some chop garage company, they are a big turbo company that do alot of audi/vw stuff

true but i don't think KKK built that contraption. i can take an HKS t51-KAI and bolt a damned hamster wheel to it and just because it says hks on one side doesn't mean its a good deal.

Where did you get the picture? It looks to me like the top pic is just the compressor housing sitting by itself and the bottom pic looks like its sitting on a table and turned 90* clockwise and the electric motor is just sitting on top. Looks fake to me.

not to be honest but I would NEVER by anything form a company that calls themselves KKK

to be honest i wouldnt take their shit if they were giving it away. :thumbdown

Maybe it just the blackguy in me.

this so far is the only officially worthy electric supercharger.

I seen this when it came out also, it made me think again. We wouldn't have to worry about turbo bearings going out, all the bs with exhaust. All we would have to do is get some nt performance headers and leave our stock injectors, or since most of us have already upgraded. An Auto Altima made 200hp at 8psi, I think that is impressive, with its 115 hp baseline,LOL. And they made a race version pumping out 20psi, that is something most of us couldnt even handle. We would need to move the battery to the back and get an optimum or sumthin even better. Now that would be cool! An wouldnt have to worry bout any exhaust restriction!

KKK = 3K = Borg-Warner

It's all the same company - they make the factory K03 and K04 turbos that come on VW and Audi motors like the 1.8t.

The Thomas Knight electric supercharger shows promise if they can refine it a little more and bring the price down - over 3 grand for the unit plus all the batteries, wiring, piping, upgraded alternator etc.

Seriously, don't you think they could think up a name? I hate PC stuff but that name is just stupid. If I opened a place called Nazi Plumbing (or Nazi Ovens) I wouldn't be too surprised if the phone didn't ring much.

It would be nice if it was comparable to some good turbo kits, it would result in more horsepower as a result of no exhaust restriction. And there would be much less underhood heat!
