I just rebuilt my engine on my 95 eagle talon tsi and had it bored .40 over and added a evoIII 16g ported. i had all the supporting mods with my 14b running 18psi fine(read profile for list of parts). My 1st question is being im still on the SMIC and running the exact unchanged SAFC settings for the 14b, what would a safe psi with the new 16g be to run?

My second question is what do yall suggest a good break-in time on the engine before its ok to get down on it and into boost? I went 30 miles on first drive, changed oil, then planning on going 500 then changing and going to synthetic Moble 1 and then drive like normal. please anyone give me any info they can on these 2 questions as I need some type of answers soon. thanks. :talon:

you changed the oil after 30 miles???? Also, if you want to break in that engine, the best thing you can do is get on it good......dont baby it. Keep the rpm's from sitting still on the highway.and use the engine to slow you down when coming to lights instead of putting it in neutral.

Changing the oil after 30 miles was alittle redundant. But safe all the same. And since it looks like your trying to be as cautious as possible, then you must also realize that you dont want to run it hard until AFTER 1000 miles. Which is also the next time I would change the oil. Then you can mob it. Ive seen alot of blown blocks because of lead feet. I was a block inspector for an engine remanufacturer in Spokane for a while. I learned alot about breakin prcedures. And what vegas smith suggested will lead you to pulling that motor again. Better to be safe than sorry. :thumb:

well my dad said when rins set they mke their marks in the walls which can make little pieces of metal so its just safe to do? im bout to go to the beach this weekend with it is that ok to do highway miles already? so 500 is too short? 1000 seems so far away LOL also anyone have any info about what psi to run at? help!!

I hate to tell you guys but anybody who believes that babying the car for 1000 miles is just a fool. Its been proven countless times that the rings wont seat properly if the car is driven soft. im not going to argue though, its none of my buisness.

Davis, enjoy the soft results after your soft breakin. :thumb:

Your trip to the beach will be fine. Just dont go dumping it and racing all over the place. Every one has a different idea of how gentle to be on a new motor. That thousand miles goes by suprisingly fast, belive it or not. I would say in light of vegas smiths response, that babying is different with a rollered, turbo motor than it is to a V-8. Boost pressure is another subject to touch on. I would run factory psi until broke in. Meaning, I wouldnt try for massive boost but also I wouldnt drive around with out it either. You know how to drive your car so it doesnt get to far in to boost, Like your being followed by a cop. Would you boost it then? no. I could see, not worring about breakin if you were solely racing and were not concerned about the cost of blowing another motor. But you seem to be the cautious type so do it how you belive it should be done. Also there will be no difference in performance after 1000 babyed miles to 500 hard miles its just safer.

Well considering the fact that i just got back from running my brand new engine for the 1st time as of 10 minutes ago, i can give first hand experience. i persoanlyl wouldnt run massive boost either but you have to get ont he car and get the rpm's high here and their to fully seat the engine or else you will have blowby on the rings for the rest of its life.

Here is a good example, a good friend of mine used to own a 538fwhp laser just like mine. He has rebuilt probably over 25 4g63 engines. Now that you can see his credibility, here is the story. Upon putting in a new built engine in his new awd talon( which is prob about 550hp), he broke the engine in on a sturday morning and had racegas in that night running 25psi on a 60-1. :shhh:
