  yep. i went agaist everything you guys said and bought arospeed coilovers..... :barf: the car handles great but everytime i hit a bump i feel like im about the fly out of the car. Car looks great lowerd but i cringe at the thought of driving cause it gives me and the passengers a headache.

now the questions

a)if i replace the stock shocks with something else will it make the ride less rough?

b)could i replace the springs that came with the kit with better springs? (arospeed brand coilover)

c) could i do choice (a) and (b) together?

d) sell the coilovers and just buy new shocks and new lowering springs......

ya i need some help and i bet alot of you dont care but after seriously crying over it (literally crying) im in a pretty bad mood and any kind of help will be appreciated....i think i can feel myself going into depression......... :( :( :(

I got a great deal on some nice Tein springs on ebay(140.00) shipped. The ride was alright, but then I got some KYG AGX Adjustable struts....amazing, my DSM feels like a lexus, and has an amazing look. :dsm:

What were you thinking running stock shocks with higher rate aftermarket springs? Stock shocks are probably valved to dampen the stock springs and not much more. No wonder why the car handles badly going over bumps. It means the shocks can't handle the strength of the springs and can't control the rate of rebound and occiliation.

So, yeah... different shocks will most likely make a difference. A car is a summation of its parts. You can just toss in one thing and expect magic to happen. Springs work with shocks... upgrade one and you must upgrade the other.

Change the shocks first. You're already $XXX in the hole by not listening in the first place. Tackle one thing at a time. If the ride still sucks after shocks, get regular springs like Eibach or H&R. You'll need the shocks anyway so that won't be a loss.

What do you need coilovers for anyway? So you can say you have them? No one can see the suspension anyway. If you're not willing to spend the $ to get real coilovers... don't bother, stick to springs and shocks.

If you think the AGXs ride like a Lexus, you really should try a car with Konis... you'll think you're in a Bentley.

Lexus and a bently? I don't know what the hell you people are talking about. Last time I checked, you sacrifice ride quality for performance. I don't see the BTCC guys or the speed vision touring cars having ride qualities rivaling those of a bently..

Well, the struts give a much better/smoother ride over the stock struts, at the same time they are a strong proformance gain, so in most cases ya, you loose with proformance, but if you put the write suspension on, your golden. And the ride is extreemly nice.

You were thinking way too literally. He said his car felt like a Lexus. IMHO, AGXs are crap and Konis are much better valved and perform much better and are built much better.

That's basically what I was saying. And, you agreed.

good point, ill change the shocks and get new ones. Any reccomendations? I could get kyb agx's or gsr's throught my work at 20% discount (advance auto parts) or i was looking around ebay for tokico hps? Any reccomendations on shocks that will work with a 2" drop?

2" drop is too low.

I'm partial to the Koni Sports... but whatever works for you.

ok so i decided to get new shocks and ebay seems to be the place where i can find them the cheapest. kyb agx looks like the ones ill end up getting, the question i had about these is are they going to be suitable for a 2" drop or would another shock like the tokico illumina be better for the extreme height difference? If both of these shocks are not meant for a 2" drop, is there another shock that is? What im guessing is that the shocks that are made for lowering are shorter and have a different damper setting for the higher spring rates? Any info would be great cause i gotta have a bottle of advil in the passenger seat for me and anyone i drive cause any bump will give you a headache!!

thanks in advance

The only OTS shocks that will work well with a 2" drop are fancy, true coilovers with adjustable bodies, such as JIC FLT-A2s or Tein Flexes. A slightly more complicated option is to get Koni Yellows and send them in (to Koni NA or True Choice) and have them shortened. This will cost about $100 each, so assume $700 for the whole set of shocks and the shortening; assume, also, that you won't have them back for about two months, since this is the worst time of year to be asking Koni or TC to be working on your stuff.

Of course, even if you do get the shocks the right length for a 2" drop, you haven't begun to deal with all of the other handling problems that are caused by over-lowering your car.

Stepping back for a moment (metaphorically and literally), have you ever noticed how hard it is to tell how far lowered is a DSM when you are looking at it from the rear? Since that's the only part of my car that I intend for others to be able to see, I don't worry about silly things like how large the wheel gaps are. I just dropped my car until the front lower LCAs were level (mostly for the additional camber), shimmed the rears until they had 2/3 the camber of the front, and limped to the alignment rack.
