A local shop is currently working on this. It is a ECU tuning system for 1G DSM’s with an EPROM ECU. I am currently scheduled to be the tester and should be testing it sometime this week. I am really excited about it and was just wondering what you guys thought about it? It seems fairly simple to use, but I have not used it in my a car yet. You need a laptop to run the software, but that's no problem for me, I have the one I used on my friend's AEM EMS. So what do you think?

It's not just a program, it requires a special chip and will be using a separate serial cable to connect to it. And about the fuel and timing control, it's about what you get with an AEM EMS, I have used one.

Well aside from the fact that you get a full map with adjustable load points, knock control and the potential for switch activated offsets to tune with the EMS it's basically the same. I.E. entering numbers. At least that's how I see it.

Just to make it extra clear, the only reason I said anything about the EMS is the fact that your enter numbers to get what you want in both of them. This system does not compare to the EMS in any other way. And i realize that I should just sit back and let it be criticized, it’s why I posted it. I will do my best to only reply to tech questions from now on.

Whew, that is a relief.

I will need to keep an eye on this.

Basically, it just replaces the OEM Eprom with a Non Volatile SRAM, which allows "on the fly" editing of various values in the "eprom".Eproms have to be erased and written as a whole or in blocks, SRAMs allow individual memory locations to be directly edited, as well as exceed the performance of the OEM eprom.Essentially a "DSMLink"(minus the logging as of yet) with external RAM, other than values won't be lost when the ECU is disconnected from power and any/all values can be altered.

The above software is not the final version, features will added/deleted based on input from the local DSM people, during the testing phase.You don't even have to use the above software if you have knowledge of DSM eproms, any Hyper-Terminal program will work, just send the address followed by the new value, it will update the value and verify by echoing the address/values back.As far as price, I'm not sure what QPR will be charging for it, I'm sure it will be reasonable, but definately not free.

BTW, this will work on 1Gs and 2Gs, as well as Chevys, Hondas, or anything else with a external 28 pin eprom.

Pretty cool device, almost like a DSMLink for the 1G it seems. DSMs need this badly.

Its a cool program..but to say it has the capability of an AEM EMS is simply assinine.

I'm definatly interested to see where this goes though. Maybe I'll put it on my new project.

Will it work on a 2000 S-10? I'm planning on DSM Link for the TSi, and a stand alone is about the only option for the S-10. I'd really rather just deal with one box underhood though...
If it could be made to run on the S-10 I'd love to get a hold of the maker and work out something.

Yes its the same QPR that makes the o2 housings.
Yes it should be out soon.
It sounds like the price will be around $300(introductory).
If the S-10 has a 28-pin eprom that the ECM uses for program memory, it will work with the universal software, meaning you'll need some knowledge of the S-10 programming.

Knowledge of programming meaning HEX, or fuel, and timing tables?

I can handle tables, HEX or whatever machine code I'm not interested in.

How will it be universal? The cpu in the dsm has its own op codes wich are not even close to other cars. Will you be able to tell the program what cpu the car has so it will program right? And will the program work based on the E931 rom or what?

In addition, how will it be universal when the different cars have different locations for everything?

I can see the hardware being universal, but not the software.
