Question for you guys. I have a set of Autometer Phantom gauges with white faces that light up blueish. My dash cluster is also white and lights up blue. The my AFC2 located in my vent, and my Pioneer radio lights up blueish.

Everything looks nice but the HVAC controlls are out of place. They are black and still light up orange..

I was down at TRE a few days ago and a guy down there picking up some stuff had a 1G, his cluster and hvac is white and lights up blue. He said the HVAC controls are inserts like the dash cluster ones but couldnt remember where he bought them.

He told me to check ebay. I have checked ebay and found NOTHING but white overlays. I can find plently of the dash cluster kits the light up blue but none of the HVAC's..

Does anyone know any shops that sell these?

Thanks.

I was down at TRE the other day and this one guy had a 1G that had both replacements for the dash cluster and HVAC controls so they were white faced and light up blue.

I asked where he got them from but he couldnt remember.

I looked around on the net and I found some that light up like blue glow gauges where the whole face lights up but the icons dont.

I want ones like he had, the reverse glow type like the factory ones, where the faces themselves dont light up but the icons light up blue at night but they are white faced in the day for the HVAC's.

I have the dash cluster ones already like this. Someone said ebay but they do NOT have any. I've searched just about every way I can think to look them up and cant find them on ebay or any DSM pages.

Anyone know a good dealer for these? Thanks.

Orrr....

Anyway here is how to do it as best as I can remember.

1. Take your gauge cluster apart. All the way. There are directions for this elsewhere on the internet so I wont go into depth however you need to get it so far apart as to have the gauge faces completely out and free of the rest of the instrumentation.

2. With some 220 grit sandpaper sand the back of all the gauge faces until all the orange is off the back. Hold the faces up to a bright light and look through them to verify that there is no orange tint to the faces.

3. Cut some rough sized pieces of blue cellophane and attach them to the back of the gauge faces with a glue stick. Spread a very thin layer over the entire back of the gauge and then attach the cellophane. Only one layer is needed.

4. Once the gluestick has dried trim the edges of it off with a VERY SHARP xacto knife. Also cut little holes around the screw holes and needle holes and cut out the holes for the odometers.

5. Cut a square out of the tach where the redline part is so it still lights up red. Experiments using red cellophane behind the 7,8, and 9 numerals and markings did not work to well. You mihgt be able to use a red LED with better sucess.

6. Sand the orange off the back of the needles and repaint it with Testors model enamel in red (or whatever color you like)

7. Break the orange parts out of the clear surround around the odometer holes (youll see what im talking about) and paint the resulting edges blue with Testors model enamel. This will get the odometer to light up blue.

8. Reassemble and install gauges. You still use the standard white bulbs that the car always had. If you wanted it brighter I suppose you could use white or blue LEDs but $$$$

9. Take the bulbs out of the back of the HVAC controls. I think there are three. Pull the orange bulb condoms off the bulbs and paint the glass blue with two thin coats. Reinstall once they dry.

Thats all there is. Total cost to me was $3 and 2 hours of time.
