With 28,000+ members, I'm sure there's a few of us here that have blown our motors at one point or another. Who has a pic of the ugliest and most destroyed motor? Show me what you got and tell how it happened.


My pic isn't a 4G63, it a JDM B18C Type-R that we swapped into my buddies 96 Civic. This is what resulted in a mis-shift from 3rd to 2nd at around 85 mph!! Not pretty!

The picture of that block is the exact reason why I would never buy a car with an aluminum open deck engine. Seriously who still uses a distributor anyway? Isn't the 80's over?

That's the first pic I've seen of an open deck block. Does coolant flow around there or is it just hollow?

not in that one. It is pretty douched. The 1st cylinder wall...gone...damn

I feel bad about that still, because it happened while he was racing me

But yeah, I helped him swap the new one back in and take that one out. For my first motor swap, Id say I learned a lot.

Coolant flows though the entire area and it cools the walls so much and really is a brilliant idea, until you try and make more HP. Honda's engineering is second to none, however they do not make the motors with anticipation of more HP nor do they over build them as done on many factory turbo cars, ie DSM, Supra, RX7, VW etcetc.. When you turbo up the power on a honda motor it's limits are reached much sooner than other types of motors. With a simple ductile iron sleve that closes up the deck like what ABES sells, it makes the blocks pretty well bullet proof. Still an expensive mod that is un-needed is other cars.

I like how in the first pic there's a wrist pin with no piston attached :laugh:

, yeah that first cylinder really suprised me too when we pulled the head. All that was left of the #1 spoon piston was this nugget. We also found a few small pieces in the muffler.......

He has a test pipe with Greddy EVO exhaust. I rag on him still for that, he had Spoon pistons, so I always tell him his exhaust got 'spooned' haha. :laugh:

2.5 years, you may have set some sort of record for oldest resurrected thread. I can't believe the pics still work,

Here's one of many holes that ended up in the block of my '93 AWD...

Bought the car like this, women driver. Heard a noise and ignored it. Kept driving it even after it was smoking heavily.

Tore it open and this is what I saw. The car was off timed or jumped timing and the impact knocked the valve head into the cylinder. She drove it until it died. I found peices of the valve in the oil pan.

WTF ouch

Not mine but a friends that I built for him. Took him 3 years without a rebuild to blow it and it was pretty when it went. Was right beind him and it was like driving though a hail storm when it happened. There wasn't really much left. 4 rods and 7 pistons and a few rod caps. The rest was burried in the track .

Never really "blew" a motor up, just spun a rod bearing in my old 7 bolt. But I may have pics of my friends srt4 motor , he just killed it today, dont know what happened or how he did it, just know there was a huge bang, backfired and started pouring white and blue smoke out the exhaust and now runs like ass, misfires and set a CEL for random misfire.
