Pull your gauges out and take out the CEL bulb. Pass the test and then put the bulb back.

That won't help if they are hooking the ODB-II scanner up, You will have to find someone with a logger, clear the CE codes and go back.

Very true, I shouldn't assume they don't have a scanner wherever he went.

Hold up. There was a recall on an emissions part that does malfunction and can cause this.

There is discussion on this here on the forums. To correct the problem(assuming it affects your car) you will have to go to the dealer and have the ECU reprogrammed to not look at that particular sensor. This will cost you nothing but a little time as it is free as required by the federal government. IMHO while there i would try and have the dealer pay for the reevaluation by the emissions nazis.

In ca do they read o2s while emissions testings. If they do not you guys can rig the car up with an exhaust that pulls in clean air (smog pump) to decrease the parts per million counts. This is a way to get heavily modded cars to pass. And the flow rate doesn't need to be that high....just put a huge restriction in the intake to limit flow and AWDs can';t be put on the dyno...atleast they can't here in tx.

mine however is with my non turbo eclipse not connecting to obd2 smog machines... I could have passed but the smog ref said that turbo 96 and below were exempt from the problem not connecting to the smog machines. He looked it up this sheet he had for all cars that are exempt...

thank you, I think this is what I was looking for. the problem wasn't that I had the check engine light on, that is usually something easy to fix such as an o2 sensor. The problem was that it wouldn't hook up to the machine right, like the ecu wasn't "talking" to the smog machine. that is the only part that I failed, the car ran very very clean. As for the reevaluation the #### sucking dealer that I bought the car from is paying for that shit. they said it would pass smog and well it didn't so my money won't be lost but the very little time that I do have will be . So thank you to anyone that replied. Now on to the next hassle getting the mitsu dealer by me to actually do this shit. The seem to have a problem helping me out because I have a talon and not an eclipse, peices of shit.

There is a LENGTHY and TIME CONSUMING procedure the dealer can do to reset the OBD-II system on our cars. I'm currently trying to get my car to pass but I have the same problem.

There is a recall for some smog related ECU things, but more than likely the dealer will refuse it saying you are not specified in the VIN's applicable. Good luck. You're gonna need it.

####, so when you took your car to ge smogged what did it say when it failed? Mine says "system malfunction light" and next to it says fail. The guy told me that I needed to take it to the dealer and have them reprogram the ecu. He said he has had alot of eclipses come to him with this problem. is that the problem you have?

No, one of the things they actually test for is a functioning CEL.

Fortunately they do not test that in some of the shops in my local area, per my experience with a few places and local DSM owners.

Damn Ive had this problem since MAY, almost a year now, but half the time the car hasnt been running long enought to get it fixed, yeah there is a recall and a lot of cars pass after the ecu's are fixed or replaced by the dealer. My friend from a dealer just did one a month ago, wasnt passing changed the ecu and passed. Im just going to rent/borrow one and see if it passe's because everything else pased even wtih my mods. and yeah Good luck.........

on my car the ob-2 showed like 8 lines and where lite up red, and said they wernt set.
