Ok, I wanna know if it is possible to make the center piece of the taillight assembly light up like the two side pieces..?? Ive asked a couple people and they said they wondered but never looked into it..Anyone know about this? Any help is appreciated - thanks :dsm:

ya can on clear tails , so assouming clears use the same housings as OEM ones i would say yes

But we do not know if they use the same..does anyone know for sure? thanks for the input though dave99gst

hmmm, i have an idea then, if you want, see if you can find two (yes two, one top one bottom) strips of neon lights, both of them white or clear, and see if you can pull off the cover and put one on top and the other on the bottm, maybe the light will be enough to make it look like its lit. i am not sure though, my experience with 2g's is limited. hmm, a cool idea would be to get a strip of vinyl long enough to cover the center peice, except have the words dsm power or whatever cut out, then position a lightning rod (neon light that has lightning in it, dances around when i hears music and sh!t) behind it, so it lights up the words, but with some cool effects. sound cool?

Rick, your idea's are pretty original but it really isnt what im lookin for. I dont want the center piece to be lit up all the time.. I just want it to light up like the two other pieces when I put on the brakes. so im trying to turn the center piece into a brake light basically.

i have my centerpiece lit up. basically you have to pop it off. then there's silver paint on the back of the panel. scrape it off somehow so that light can shine through. i just wired a set of bulbs to my taillights so that centerpiece goes on when i turn them on. to have it come on with the brakelights i imagine that you just splice it into the brake lights.

Awesome, Do you have a picture Lethal???
i'll try to take a picture tomorrow.

one of the problems is that the panel is not a reflector like the taillights. it's just a red piece of plastic, so the lighting inside isn't as spread out. what i did was buy some of those cheap red reflectors at Pep Boys to help try and "disperse" the light to help illuminate the whole panel. i also put some of that chrome tape from the ricer section (the sticker kind you use on body panels) on the part the panel goes on to help reflect more light. it kinda worked. i think i should try using some brighter bulbs (i used a pair of domelights) or LEDs.

you'll see what i'm talking about when i post the pics.

You could spilce wires and run alot of bulbs from the stock bulbs. then its a matter of drilling into the center housing. good luck

i did that too, had like 4 bulbs in the center piece, it became a HUGE pain cuz sumtimes when i hit bumps, one of em would turn off and turn on and it juss looked bad all in all i think so i unhooked it all eventually

Holy OMG that is sick 95EclipseGST. Do you think you could post a mini-writeup on how you accomplished the glowing blue "eclipse" on the center panel? I have some ideas about a possible way to do it, but i would like to see how you went about it. :thumb:

Here is a tribal that i did as well. The night shot pic made it look blurry but it came out nice in person. Doing it red would be legal, as it matches the rest of the tailights at night. Both were wired to a switch as well to keep it on in a parking lot or turn off for cops etc. Very little drain on the battery. Anyway pretty easy as to break the lights when taking apart, so be careful. Use a heat gun or oven at low temp. I broke 2 before getting it right. Then just stencil out the design. I am going to do 3 more with different designs when i get the time from work. Here is a link to the basic principle. http://www.2gnt.com/www/files/illuminatedtail.htm This is my car before getting it painted pearl blue. See gallery pics :rocks:

If you really want to light the center piece to match the outer lights you have a lot of work to do. The housing needs to be made deeper in order for the light to be dispersed properly and have any hope of looking like it was factory. I have done several version until I finally did a full LED conversion of all three housings.

Here is a link to the first center piece I worked on.

I was not happy with just the center section done in LEDs so I converted the whole back end after about 9 months of working on the project on and off.

I detailed all the work involved in this thread at HIDplanet.

The LED center panel and LED right and left lights turned out to be a real challenge to do it right.

It is impractical to make a kit like this. I'm investigating a simpler version but it won't look as nice.

Wait a sec...so you did all three lights? Wow, that is something; I was thinking you just did the center piece. I tried to go to the website you listed for the complete breakdown of your procedude, but it required me to sign up and wouldnt open the page. Is there a way you could post stuff on here, with details on the parts you used? I would ove to ty to make one myself!! A fully ready center piece like that would go for at least $150 minmum on ebay.
