well due to the huge help you all gave me in my other forums:thumbdown . but i have decided to let the n/t go . and get a pre 92 turbo one(6bolt) but my question this time is. when i go out there to buy one. what do i need, i know i need to take a compression tester but what else. like what are the compression limits on a 1g turbo etc and what to look for under and in the engine bay.

take it for a test drive thats usally a start. When you drive it, see how it is when you hit boost, make sure it dosen't smoke. Can't say much about the transmission, 1G are notchy shifters, just make sure it dosen't grind. Check the pedals make sure there isn't much play, "no more than an inch" These are the things i wished i would have checked when i bought my laser, but ineeded a car so i took it, plus it was only 600$, who could pass up the offer ?

*Compression guage
*Vac/Boost guage
*basic tools


Just look the intake over real well, look at the wireing around the injectors etc. If you knew which fitings you take hell you could take a fuel pressure guage if you REALY wanted to check it all over.

Lission for sounds that shouldn't be there when your shifting gears.


__On the compression. I wouldnl't get it if it was lower than 140. And it shouldn't vary by more than 15psi from cyl to cyl. On a new engine with the 7.8:1 pistons it should be around 170ish I think

__On the Vac/boost, it should have a minimum of 9psi of boost and no less than 15 vac (this will normaly show when your decellerating)

Also look at when the turbo starts to build boost. Is it where it should on a healthy car?

Look for oil leaks around the pump area and frame of the car, just because it's not driping dont mean it's not leaking.

and of corse look for a virgin if possible.. I know i found one IM TALKING ABOUT THE CAR YOU perv!

Also try to find one that one of the owners has NOT been either a woman or teen..
