There are TONS of forums about the e-bay turbos. That being said, I bought the Ported Evo III 16g from SS Autochrome/XS Power. Mine works great, but the consensus seems to be a hit or miss on whether they send you a good turbo or not. Ebay turbos all depend on where they get them from. Unless you want to take a chance like I did and hope you get lucky like I did, go with a turbo from a known place. Are you aware with a t3/t4 you will need bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, fuel pump rewire, a way to control your new fuel mapping, a logger, and other parts in order to get the turbo to work like it should? You can get away with a stock set-up with an Evo III 16g, but you will need to keep the boost really low, if you want your boost up high (up to 15 PSI), you will need a bigger fuel pump and the fuel pump rewire. I don't know if you have any mods, but that is just off of a stock set-up you need what I mentioned. Make sure you have an after market boost gauge before you install the new turbo.

stay away from ssautochrome ive seen some horor stories and how shitty they last

Some are good, Some are bad. My friend bought a complete turbo kit from xs power for his Honda Civic. He just threw it on, Did some tuning and ran a 13.4 @ 108mph his first time out racing the car. The car has not given him ANY problems. Some are good, Some are bad. The question is, Are you feeling lucky?

Its people like you that haven't used the equipment that need to stop talking crap. If you haven't used it personally or had a friend that you know well used it, don't talk about it. Because you've seen horror stories isn't good enough, most of those horror stories are from other who have "seen stories" and those saw stories. Most of SSAutoChromes bad rep is because of tons of hearsay. I have used it, it works great. There customer service sucks and the warranty is only good for 30 days. So it is hit and miss. Go read the forums about the SSAutoChrome Intercoolers and everyone loves them. They are awesome and most people get the set-up for around $200 - $300 dollars. Some of there stuff is good, other is bad. It depends on what you are looking for.

"I am not saying they don't have crappy stuff, cause some of it really sucks, but they have changed turbo suppliers and the new turbos hold up better and are better quality, in fact my turbo is an MHI turbo that they sent me, can't beat a Mitsubishi Factory Turbo for $500.

I say, for the price... you can beat it. Their intercoolers are great, but I don't think I could go for one their turbos IMO. I am getting the SCM5031E dbb from turbotime.us ...

NO.

Do you really think everyone needs to experience everything first hand? Watching somebody else shoot themselves in the foot would be good enough reason for me to not do the same. How about this. I've seen someone literally burn their car down from using a cheap fuel fitting. Is that enough for me to not use a cheap fuel fitting yes... should it be enough for you to not use a cheap fuel fitting... well, I would say yes.

Who the eff would try to say that their bad rep is caused by "a story of a story of a story". SEARCH on this forum. there dozens and dozens of failed parts and nothing is done about them. Sure you want to save money, but you spend 450 on a "turbo kit" that is only worth about 30$ of scrap metal in a few weeks you just lost the difference between the "good" part and the crappy one.

Think about this. People like Magnus, Buschur, FP, RRE... .These are the people who have tried the products out in race situations. They've tested and spent thousands upon thousands of dollars to test/manfacture/create products that will last, and that they can put their name on. They've supported the DSM community for years, and are the only reason that you can make your car as fast as you can, as easily. OEMs like Mitsu, Garrett spend thousands upon thousands of dollars designing housings, wheels, bearings. There is a REASON for it.

Now insert effing rejects like "SS autochrome" which sell chinese one offs. They fail more often than not, they will NEVER make the power an equivelant part will because frankly their reverse engineering skills just aren't that good. They're made from extremely high carbon content metals which are weak as hell, especially at temperatures seen in a turbo/manifold. They also can't stand behind the product, because they know it is crap. Not only is the design crap, but the manufacturing process of building it is crap.

I understand that you want a part at a good price; however, spending money in the "ebay lottery" will easily net you more money lost than buying the GOOD part in the first place. Some people, like yourself, do manage to get a part that doesn't immediately break. But you have to ask yourself.. Will it last 5k miles? 10k? 50K? Will it work as well as the real part during those miles?

How about this. You go through the DSMtuners 1/4 time list, and DSMtimes and tell me which of those people use SS autochrome, or GT or any other "ebay" brand parts and have, in the end, spent less money than the people they're as fast as. If you can find more than 1, I'll give you 10$ over paypal.

(intercoolers are slightly different as they are quite simple and can typically make up for inefficiencies through larger cores. It is also the only part that I went "cheap" on. JRC backdoor FMIC)

Look, I am not saying they are wonderful, I did say it was hit or miss, so need for some super long explanation. I also stated that their customer service sucks. The turbo I bought from them ended up being a real Mitsubishi MHI Evo 3 16g. Not some cheap $30 piece of metal. I know some of their turbos suck. I am just saying most of the bad rap out their on SS autchrome is hearsay and it is hearsay from their old turbos. They dropped the manufacturer of the old turbos because they know they suck. The only people that should be posting whether the product sucks or not are people that are actually using it, that's all I am saying. If that person had put an SS autchrome turbo on their car and blew up really fast, then you wouldn't hear word one from me about. I just think people should not do things out of hearsay, and it even says in the posting rules # 3, no "I've heard" comments. If I never knew what a bullet did, I would much rather hear from the person that shot themselves in the foot, than someone that might have seen it happen.

I've had good and bad experiences. As I previously stated, My buddy bolted on a ''cheapo'' ebay kit, and ran a 13.4 @ 108mph his first time out, IN A FWD CIVIC. Bolted the turbo on and tuned it himself, And got that time... Is that a good time? In my opinion, For how much he spent, Yes.. Yes it is. Would I buy one of these turbo's myself? Personally, No I would not unless I had the money to risk on the chance that it COULD break. This does not need to be an argument. The thread poster should have searched to easily find ALOT of information, Both good and bad. This is going to turn into a huge war.
