yeah agred but there are alot of dsm"s around here and the cops dont realy mess with us as much as they like to pull over riced out hondus and our streets do suck ass try geting the city to fix a 6" deep 17 in wide pot hole that you just cracked yor new rim on and they LOL

In northern indiana there are not many laws at all for modding. NO Emissions, NO Inspections, and no exhaust laws. I've done the BOV salute right next to a cop a few times and all he does is laugh. LOL not a very smart thing to do but the first time I did it was by a undercover cop and he wanted to know what I had done to it. A little weird but OK at least he isn't following me around all the time. I see more drug users and drunk drivers get pulled over in POS cars more than imports here.

wow michigan sounds like heaven compared to some places, you can pretty much get away with anything here, we have been pulled over just so the cop could check out my friends car...because he liked it ROFL .....my exhaust broke once right before the cat and i had no problems driving right by a cop. No laws about being too low or anything...the only bad thing here is that there arent too many "tuners" and winter sucks

Well, I'll trough my 2cents in.
In MS, it doesn't really matter if you have a muffler or exhaust for that matter, have oil dripping out all over the road, or have most of your body panels missing. You pay $5 for an inspection sticker. The shops make less than 1 buck off it if i remember correctly, so they are not too worried about spending any amount of time on an inspection. Some will get pissy if you have a crack in the windshield, but most still give you a sticker anyway.

Florida is pretty good. Pros: There is no emissions testing (stopped doing it in the late 90's). You can drive your car all year, and the roads are generally pretty decent depending on where you live, some counties having less money to maintain them. There's a decent car scene, at least here in Tampa.

Cons- modified exhaust is technically illegal, street racing is very illegal. There are almost no curvy roads to go have fun on- without hills and mountains, there's no reason for roads to be anything but straight and boring. I don't street race so it doesn't bother me much, but the law put in place a few years ago makes it a 500-1000 dollar fine and 1 year suspension of your license. Basically, you have to spend 500-1000 on a lawyer if you want to get it reduced to reckless or careless (depends on how lenient the judge you get it) and save your license.

The exhaust law is applied very inconsistently. Generally, you'll only get a ticket if you're down at one of the bridges that go across the bay, which were the traditional race spot for more than 30 years where some cars dipping down into the single digit ETs would race but were taken over and ruined by the F&F crowd (the reason for the street racing law :( ). Sometimes they'll randomly pull you as you're just driving around, but usually it's only people with truly riced out cars who are driving like asses. I ran open o2 housing for a year, and open downpipe for another year, and I've only been pulled over once after flooring it past many cops. I was pulled over because I didn't look behind me and did a 1-2 pull with a cop sitting right behind me. He pulled me over, ran my information, told me he'd let me off with a warning because my record was clean and to make sure there weren't any cops around before doing stuff like that :D. He also pointed to the front of the car where the downpipe ended and told me I should do something about that. Overall a very cool cop, and I have an E-cutout and stock catback now, so it's all good.

Yeah i suppose michigan is ok except for the fact that where i live its a tourist town and so many people come with their cars and get the cops pissed. I was riding in a friends 98 Monte Carlo with just some rims and flame stickers on it and we got pulled over for his license plate frame partially covering the license plate and the tint was too dark in the back, not even on the front windows! But yeah we just got a huge gov't grant and you cant drive 5 miles in my town without seeing a cop now. Not to mention michigan has the #1 Worst Rated Roads in the Country and we have snow galore! But as far as inpsections and lowering cars its easy to get by, exhaust isnt a probelm either.

CA, hands down. Though I hear FL is catching up - we have the toughest emissions laws, the most street racing, and a ton of stupid kids that screw it up for the rest of us.
So true.

I have to say so far though I have had very good luck with not getting into too much trouble.

I wasn't going to reply to this, seeing as this is a 2 year-old thread and all, but I just had to comment on this, just in case. Sorry for contributing to the resurrection of an ooooold thread!
Haha.......

Texas(namely dallas/ft worth area) id say is the new capitol for car modifying. anywhere you have 600hp cobras, 500hp LS1's and insanely modded dsm's, honduhs and anything else, is a badass place to live. and emissions, there will be hell to pay before texas lets that happen. itll cecede from the union again before submitting to a federal emissions mandate.

What??? WTF What part of Dallas/Ft Worth have you been to?
We have super-strict emissions, and cops in the suburbs are complete tools. Granted, I've been to California so I know Texas is by far not the worst, but it's getting up there. We have regulations on tint, suspension, exhaust, decibel, exterior lighting, you name it. And cops enforce the hell out of them so long as you're not driving a Ford or a GM.

My boyfriend drives a modded '03 Mustang GT and has only been pulled over once in the seven years he's lived in the area (and he drives like a raving lunatic). I, on the other hand, once got pulled over and arrested for "street racing" when I was driving BY MYSELF on the highway, going 5 under the speed limit in 4th gear. The only other car in sight was a damn mini van.

I have a few DSMs in my area, but maybe a couple (mine included) are modded at all...The other is a red 1g Talon that's mostly trailered around (probably out of fear of getting a ticket if it ever drove on the streets :toobad: )

So....Yeah. What part of Dallas are you talking about? I've lived here for 24 years.....I need to know where this neighborhood is, so I can move there. Ha.

;)

umm, look at what you drive and look at what he drives. this is texas, you guys have 600hp cobras, 700hp nitrous fed LS1's and 800hp supras like its nothing special. on the old website i used to go to, we had 2 500hp dsm's in the dallas/ft worth area and they werent even that great compared to most the other cars. in cali, ####ing 500hp is almost unhead of(unless its a trailer queen). cops hate imports. cops love domestics. get with the program.

However, they did pass a law that is REAL stricit on street racing. If you are caught 1) your car is impounded, 2) you lose your license for one full year, 3) at the end of that year you MUST complete 80 hours(!) of community service to get it back. Just more incentive to be faster than the other guy I guess.

1)dont pay to get it out, your bank will love that(if your financing). tell them you can suck your balls, your car is in the impound. ###### cheaper for them to sell it and give you the bill of the difference than to pay for the impound fee anyways, unless you owe like 30k and the cars worth 5 grand under your current loan value.
2)its cheaper NOT to have a license/insurance. ask the illegals, they dont pay for shit.
3)#### community service and #### your license.

and it just means you should install a special weapon under the rear chassis, that opens a box containing a shitload of those sharp hollow-point needle jack kinda things, and use it when theyre behind you, thatll ruin his day. oh and a spring loaded license plate, that pops up when you hit a button so they cant get your license on the camera.

remember, you have 60 seconds or less, in that time frame, they can call numerous other cops in the available area to ruin your day, or they can call a chopper, in which case, ive yet to see a car chase involving a chopper that the guy got away.

Um.... Excuse me? You're being rude to me why?
I know what I drive, and I know it's not "rice". It's even mostly de-badged. honestly, if you just saw it driving down the street, it wouldn't look like anything special at all, unless you heard the BOV, which I keep as quiet as I can.

We don't have "600hp cobras, 700hp nitrous fed LS1's and 800hp supras like it's nothing special". Yes, I know of a few off hand (and I know the 800hp supra you're referring to, if you're in fact referring to a particular car). But it's not "nothing special"....I've lived in Chicago and saw plenty of heavily modded domestics up there, too. Unless you go to the track on race day at Ennis, you hardly ever seen anything other than hon-duhs and an occasional riced out poser F+F DSM. Just because a city has modded cars that somehow stay under the cops' radars doesn't make it "the capitol for car modifying".....That's all I was trying to say.

New Jersey sucks for having a nice car damnit :thumbdown .

Here we are first stuck with the highest insurance rates in the nation LOL. Then we get banged with all the shit ass roads here, with some of the worst drivers ever. Don't even think about going anywhere and forgetting to lock your door, because your car will be gone before you turn around  after you own a fast car, and someone else knows about it, you're a damn target  . Screw this place.

QFT.

Leet- If they catch you speeding, I believe "reasonable cause" comes in and they are actually aloud to search your car anywhere they want. I am not 100% sure on that, but I heard. So don't quote me. If I am wrong let me know please, I would LOVE to be wrong. Less to worry about.:thumb:

Gotta love south Texas it is the greatest state troopers are cool and if you know a cop you can get away with speeding tickets (trust me i know) :thumb: oh and lets not forget that we are about 10 minutes or less from Mexico and i do not recommend taking a dsm their and yeah we actually do have some pretty fast GT's, Cobras. and all kinds of Camaro's and lets not forget truck lovers everywhere Texas is the greatest:rocks:

They're called caltrops, though if you were to use them you'd probably be in for attempted murder. The license plate- well, there used to be a company that sold electrochromatic license plate covers that went opaque at the flip of a switch, but I haven't been able to find their site for years. A cut-off switch on all of the rear lights might be good enough if it's dark out. The jackass who owned my car before I did had just such a switch installed. Hardcore street racer shiat, yo  .

here they can search if they have probable cause of something in sight or smell, if not, and you dont give them permission to search, they will make you wait while they call in the k9 unit. and if dog doesnt pick anything up, they may still go ahead and call a judge for a warrant.

i run straight exhaust, 5% tint, speed but havent been pulled for that stuff since iv done it(almost 2 years ago). i have however been ticketed for the flip out tv in my truck which i dont know how they seen past the tint which they didnt give me a ticket for. and the other was in my car, the headlights didnt sit high enough off the ground ? i tried to fight it, didnt work ...... SE Oklahoma for ya:rolleyes:

I vote Tennessee as the best state for moddified cars. No emitions, smoothest roads in the country, and the cops never say anything about any illegal mods. I've been lowering cars for four years, and I've never had a cop say anything, except for a couple of comments.

ny is right up there in the worst states...... crappy roads, stupid cops, dumb laws.. and hicks! if your car aint stock it's illegal,
correction, if ## car is stock it still is illegal
buddy with an evo 8 got ticket for stock spoiler, go figure
An OEM part can not be ticketed. If it passes the Gov requirements, then its ok

Not to mention all the road side safety and emissions inspections. Oh yeah, and just like they say in "Cannonball Run", we have the death penalty for speeding. Anyone else here know someone that got a ticket for 1 over... I do, 56 in a 55 and it held up in court...

I have now moved to PA. and holy crap it sucks here, and the cops are ass's. As soon as im done at Wyotech im goin back south.

Sorry guys, CA wins easily. With the visual emissions inspections (they won't even test your car if something looks aftermarket under your hood), the CARB system, anything you do under the hood will get you a ticket, and the fact that they're crushing your car in SoCal if you're caught street racing, I don't know of any other place where it's more difficult to have a modded car. I must applaud the car crushing though - that should deter some folks from acting stupid on the streets... or maybe not. Not to mention the financial troubles CA is having - they won't be fixing many roads in the next 5 years due to all the cost-cutting measures. Don't get me started on the cops... though I don't put myself in many situations where cops would harrass me. I stay away from the night-time hangouts that attract police. But nevertheless, try talking your way out of a fix-it ticket when they ask you to pop your hood. You'll be going to the "state emissions ref" where your engine bay must look completely stock to pass the test.

Everything that's being done in other states usually comes from CA. If you have visual inspections at emissions time, you can thank CA lawmakers. Just look for places where street racing is a big problem, you'll find that state to be tough on modded cars. Cali is the winner. I can't begin to explain how happy I am that I moved when I did.

i think ever one in america needs to get and end this $**t enough is enough the cops everwhere are pricks here in good ol america wv i had to post $3500 for bail or wait for 2months court date set for wreckless driving which my car slide on the gravel on the shoulder hit a g-rail to phone poles used as mail boxes and almost a house at near 50 mph then tryed to book me for durg charges and a dui a evading police speding not to metioned my talon is still out cause of a clucth and i totaled my o1 malibu and riped the firewall off! now i face more money problems ###......
