Over the weekend i installed a new XTD 6 puck spring loaded clutch!!! I just got done with it tonight and took if for a drive! I noticed that when I Let of the clutch pedal slowly the car wants to hop around for some reason? Also in order to engage and disengage the clutch i have to push the clutch pedal almost all the way down to the floor!!!

Sorry guys First time ever doing a clutch install!!!

Any tips wound be helpfull.

I have the same clutch, get used to the grabbiness of it. They don't like to be slipped. It does get better though. I have about 1500 miles on mine and I can drive daily just fine, traffic kinda sucks though :notgood:. Search clutch adjustment to get the clutch to engage further off the floor, or check out the article on vfaq.com. big_d :talon::laser::dsm:

LOL. 6 puck is not easy to drive. you probably got looked at when your car was jumping that it was your first time driving a stick LOL.

That is called chatter. It happens on a puck disc, try to slip it slowly for rev a little higher RPM and then give it some gas. You will also notice that if you do a high RPM slip when you first start the car and warm up the disc, the chatter is not that bad (I figured that out a week ago with my 6 puck disc).

As for the engagement point, try adjusting your clutch.

K thanxs guys! So this clutch chatter is normal for a 6 puck clutch?? Is it gonna hurt anything? It kinda sound like a bolt is rattleing loose or sumthing LOL!
Thats normal, adjust the car and get used to the hoppiness.

Did you replace your pivot ball and clutch fork?
Did you ensure BOTH dowel pins (alignment sleeves) were installed in the block when reinstalling the transmission?

K cool cus this was my first time installing a new clutch and im new to this hoppiness!

I did not replace the pivot ball or clutch fork. Whats the purpose of them?

I did make sure both dowl pins were aligned If there weren't the tranny wouldn't be able to bolt up to the block right??

The pivot ball is screwed into the tranny housing and the center of the clutch fork pivots on the ball. The end of the clutch fork is around the tob which helps engage/disengage the clutch disc when the pedal is pressed in and released. They should be replaced when doing a clutch job (along with some other parts). Did you use a new OEM tob?

And the tranny would be able to bolt up to the block even if you were missing one or two of the dowel pins. When I took my tranny off this summer, I was missing a dowel pin :notgood:

I disagree, I drive with the fidanza 3.2, which is a 4 puck.. Its a breeze to drive.

Your 4 puck fidanza 3.2 is kevlar, not ceramic like the ACT 6 sprung disc. You can however, compare the ACT 6 sprung to the fidanza 4.3 since it is ceramic. Your car is a breeze to drive since you don't have ceramic buttons.

Ready for the bad news.

A) You should have replaced the clutch fork and pivot ball (or some call it the fulcrum ball). You may find that the clutch grabs REALLY close to the floor if this is the case, then you may need to remove the tranny again and replace them. These parts are like an oil filter. You don't just change the oil, you change the oild AND the oil filter. They should be done at the same time.

B) You can put the transmission on with the dowel pins missing. If they are missing, then have no doubt, you run the risk of ruining you're $400+ Clutch. This is an install error and ACT will not cover it. In fact the damage done, is so unique, that you can't even lie about it. They will now you installed the transmission wrong and you won't get a refund or replacement part. You will just be out the cash.

What will it do, out of curiosity?

Thats about $800 that was destroyed in about 2-3 months. LUCKILY it didn't damage the transmission.

that clutch and flywheel you just showed look axactly like mine. except i have a 7 bolt. what caused that to do that. dowel pins are missing. Ill take my chances by just having bad luck and blowing the spring out like that. chewed up everything almost exactly as yours. that is scary.
